I'd put him on a par with Funes Mori.
A strange acquisition as Funes Mori commences training with the first team.
Mangala has height and is quicker than Mori, though.

Try before you buy. I like that.Always liked a try before you buy deal. Hopefully it works out, we need more height and pace in the team.

Yeah, but if he's not good enough to get into the most expensive back 4 in history, he's not good enough for usThink this one could work out well.
Tall, strong , quick, left footed. And has premier league experience. Big Sam loves a defender with those attributes.
I’d also argue that our coaching /tactical focus might suit Mangala’s game more so then Pep’s. He’s probably not that tippy tappy type that perhaps pep demands. Where as Big Sam will just get him back to basics/ focus on his strengths.
I hope he does well, good luck to him.
I am going to disagree with you twice in one day! He has been so bad it is quite astonishing, we can't let last night and 2 other games cover up the fact that he has been woefull, for a premier league footballer, to be so bad because he is "playing on the other side of the pitch" is amazing. The gaps he leaves, his wayward passing and his inability to tackle are something to behold.
A colossal clown?"Mangala made his debut in City's fifth match of the Premier League season, a 1–1 home draw against Chelsea on 21 September. Lining up alongside captain Vincent Kompany, his performance was described by BBC Sport as "colossal". Six days later, an own goal and concession of a penalty by Mangala caused City to lose a 2–0 lead against Hull City, although they eventually triumphed 4–2. Despite media criticism, manager Manuel Pellegrini said "we continue to trust him because he is a very good player who had very bad luck". On 30 November, Mangala was sent off for two yellow cards in City's 3–0 win away to Southampton." From Wikipedia
Are we getting the collossus or the clown?
I remember thinking that too. But he's here now so let's just get behind him and hope he kicks lumps out of Ozil on Saturday - I mean behaves himself (what was I thinking2014; Mangala is rash and impulsive, in other words an absolute liability. Two of his fouls in this game deserved a red card.

He is prone to really stupid decisionmaking in defense but certainly has the tools to be a very good CB, just has never done it consistently. Basically, you have to accept you will get the terrible error from time to time with him

Gary Ablett is one who springs to mind, Joleon Lescott another. Both left footed centre halves who did a decent job at left back. Can't remember a right back ever filling in to good effect. For all of our ragging on him, Martina hasn't actually been that bad. I don't know if a centre half wedged into a LB position would do any better than a RB doing the same
