EFC Away

I think he’s saying our away supporters need changing because their lack of enthusiasm while being beaten by City was spoiling his enjoyment of his prawn sandwiches, while sat in a comfy seat, in a plush, dry, temperature controlled Etihad box.
I'm sure he still did his bit and sang his big blue heart out to try and encourage his fellow travellers to up their game.

I've had a season ticket for 30 years and go all home cup ties but never have enough credits to get a ticket for any away unless it's an FA Cup tie at a big ground when we get more than the usual 3,000 tickets.
You made this exact comment on a similar thread back in July, and I replied to it back then explaining why it was complete and utter nonsense. Why are you repeating the same drivel?

Bit of a morbid post here sorry…

You’ll find over the next 10 or so years a lot of the older fans who’ve got full credits will either pass away or stop going due to health. A lot of the full credits are with those people. So more and more will get on the ladder.

The one thing I don’t agree with though… if you’re not attending the game why are you buying the ticket other than to pass on. It’s cheating the system so you can cherry pick which away games you want to go to. We’d all do it in that position but it’s not morally right.

I've a mate whose a Man Utd season ticket holder and they do a much fairer system as in all season ticket holders can apply on line for whichever away game they choose and they get an email telling them whether they're lucky or unlucky so that guarantees a cross section of their fans get access to away tickets unlike our club who've been selling them to pretty much the same 3,000 people for years.

I'm sure someone explained how easy it is or was to get up the ladder.

So how would your scenario work? Just say to people who have travelled 1000s of miles and spent fortunes over decades that you are now in a ballot with Johnny come lately who suddenly fancies going to the aways? Its never going to happen im afraid. I do agree we need to stop people passing the tickets on though, as we actually do attend all the aways I wouldnt be against say 300 random tickets being collected at the venue with id, and if the person doesnt collect then they lose the credit
As I've said credit system is fairest way to distribute tickets and worked well for years. However in the past having 8 credits was a lot, now you've had huge rise in number of people who have large amounts of credits. My issue is with credit hoarding, where people buy tickets they have no intention of attending and selling them on. Sunderland away on a Monday in past would give you a chance of getting on ladder, now credit hoarders will just sell them on to friends. Credit system worked because people attended games, it doesn't work if people are just buying tickets then selling them on. I prefer credit system to ballot, I just think it should be of been restarted to put off hoarders, and those who go to away games most weeks would still get rewarded. Hoarders would be back to square one and it would be people who wanted to go to match who bought tickets. Also miraculously hoarders who had bought ticket for Newcastle midweek couldn't attend, I could have got 10 tickets for that game if I'd wanted. I have no problem with fans who actually attend games like yourself, just hoarders and touts.

I remember over twenty years ago I used to be in the Alex Young/Joe Mercer lounges all I had to do was send a letter in with a cheques requesting away tickets even derby games at the pit and they would arrive,I guess it's always been a bit shady,I was probably doing just over half of the away games per season back then so nowhere the fellas with full credits.

Im against the hoarders and touts myself but how would this restart thing work in practice? If the club just went 'every ones credits are reset to zero' you would have far more than 3000 applying for them on day one and that would not be fair on the people who have actually been going to them all for decades. The solution is to find a way to distiguish the people who attend and those who don't. Like I said earlier, one way is to do a collection at the away stadium with ID for a random 300, even that would be difficult with the all digital ticketing from next season though.

It's as about as fair as it can be at the moment and the away support and noise is usually good.

I do agree that the people who hoard the credits by buying regardless whether they can go, safe knowing they can off load them to someone else, are annoying.

The only fix is when we get biometrics at the turnstiles, and that is all a bit big brother...

Were going to Brazil next month. Fluminese are at home at the Maracana when we are there and that stadium has facial recognition technology. You have to provide a facial picture and your id to the club online which they check and verify. You then buy your tickets and arrive at the stadium where they scan your face and let you in. Matter of time before we get that here i reckon.
