Agrred that he is a snide and there is playful banter type snideyness and then there is biting somebody.

It would be like the difference between a wicket keeper sledging a batsman for being crap or what the next ball is going to be, etc. and the wicket keeper getting one of the stumps and continually hitting the batter with it.
