I think Rodgers is right, though.

Minutes silence for non footballing figures is trouble, especially that particular figure. But doing it for footballing dead (hilsbrough) and any other dead the home fans want to acknowledge is an elegant enough solution to avoid controversy.

He is right

If they are his actual views or not is another question all together

So much this. What we are doing the weekend, according to Groucho.

That was just ignorance. He's just not very knowledgeable.

Yeah, I know. Just dont think;

1. Bringing something up that was covered on here ages ago, or
2. Lamping him for something he did as a sponsor commitment, or whatever it was, at a previous club

can make us look a bit, well, obsessed.

i'd be quite happy if they replaced rodgers with benitez if i'm honest. I think they'd be a bigger threat to us in the league in 3 years time with rodgers there rather than benitez. the guy is an utter moron, i know success is based on trophies, but he'll rest players in the league for a carling cup quarter final etc. no matter what team he has, he throws away nearly double figures in points by tinkering. And yes, i am well aware he won the title with valenica when i say this, but he's a cup manager and nothing else, only because you can win things by drawing - something which doesn't quite work in the league.

will be interesting to see how us and liverpool cope with the sales of fellaini and suarez. We're selling debateably our best player but we've shown we're still a team without him, you seriously can't say the same about this liverpool team without suarez. Luckily for them they'll begrudgingly get twice as much money as us, as well as their wealthy finances. They'll probably still end up finishing behind us though

benitez - la liga winner (twice), UEFA cup winner, champions league winner, champions league runner-up, premier league runner up, fa cup
rodgers - the passing

i would rather have rodgers over there tbh

you think benitez will be able to win anything with this current liverpool team though? look what he's done at chelsea (expecting him to win europa and FA Cup now that i'm saying this), but purely based on the league. They were title contenders when he went there, they may end up not even qualifying for europe. He didn't do too well at Inter either. I'm sorry, just don't rate the guy, most of his "wins" were from the away goals rule or penalties or that javi garcia "goal"

Our wonderful local paper has hit another new low with the "20 free transfers Liberpool might target" and then, very graciously, as a nice afterthought, chucked a link in with (pictures only) 10 in for us Blues to "think about" - ALL IN THE SAME ARTICLE. Need I say more?

was going to say i closed the tab as soon as i saw hangelaand's name (seeing as he's not out of contract), but then realised the date

How does the editor let that article go out.

1st. Brede Hangeland: 31-year-old defender Hangeland will be a wanted man when his Fulham contract comes to an end in June. Speculation suggests he is keen on a switch for Champions League football.

so that rules Liverpool out then!

then

Landon Donovan: A third spell at Everton for the US national this January is unlikely - he is wary of being burned-out and the Blues already have Mirallas and Pienaar bombing down the flanks. But no doubt many EFC fans would love to see him return, even if just as an option from the bench. Probably not much chance of him running out on the other side of Stanley Park though...

(why add him if we both dont want him?)

the fact hangeland signed a contract extension at fulham suggest he wasn't too keen on CL as well ha. I have no idea who the bottom two they linked us with are.

They're an adorable bunch really..
In the Echo today. I can just picture Rodgers talking to prospective signings trying to sell them on the advantages of coming to play with no European football.
Yesterday I commented on one thread about clubs and their particular trajectories and understanding the realities facing your club to adjust expectations. These guys have never challenged top 4 even slightly over the last 2 seasons. Reckon there will be a large amount though agreeing with Rodgers, glad to have come 7th. Deluded.

“There are two arguments, as a club we want to be in there. We really enjoyed the European football this season after it had been missing for a year and I know the supporters love the travel. But you could argue that a season free of European football would give us a greater chance of finishing in a much higher position in the league – of competing for the top four which is a really difficult task with the teams up there and the finances involved."

You know, taking a season out of Europe so you can strengthen your chances for future European competition is actually not a bad idea
