Would dearly love to see it but on what I have seen of them this year so far Dundalk won't be getting past Rd 1 unless they get a very soft draw. Not related to last year's side

UEFA made a massive rick in 2005 by not having the Champions defend their title (just as they did with the European Cup e.g. Villa and Forest and many others). But the solution was so simple - for 2005-6 - to allow Liverpool to play "without standing" as Champions. "Without Standing" is a term used to denote, typically, a wild card. Another example might be if Australia won the Eurovision. The next year's competition presumably wouldn't be held in Sydney. So Liverpool could have played without ranking points (for that season) and then everyone else (the rest of Europe) would have been happy. But instead there was subterfuge and changes on the UEFA website rules before the announcement.. and so on - and we all know what happened next.
