To add to the above, literally everything Liverpool had last year hinged on Suarez. The tenacity to keep the pressure on back lines to make up for Gerrard being finished. The intelligence to mean he had to be watched constantly to open up obvious space for Sterling. The goals so they didn't have to sign Balotelli and Lambert and, worse, actually play them.

Everything. They didn't have a prayer of doing anything of note this season. Their only hope hinged on Sturridge staying fit and somehow finding the right fit up front alongside him; neither happened.
