If LFC lose away to Ludogarets at the end of the month, and Basel can somehow get a draw at home to Real Madrid, then LFC will be out and will finish bottom of their group, with 1 game left to play. They won't even get into the Europa.

Did I imagine him saying once that he hypothetically wouldn't mind managing us?

I still chuckle over that comment about the RS pundits.

Nope:

He said: “Manchester United would be a great challenge for me. But Liverpool is not the club for me. I know why, but I cannot tell you.

“Tottenham, Everton... Arsenal maybe. These are all fine clubs with very good managers.

That's not part of Brendan's vision when he foresaw how the group would pan out.

I'm surpised though that he admitted to having visions of them playing so badly against Ludogarets at home and did nothing about it, or even Basel away, but it's all part if the masterplan and like Gary Lineker I've never been a manager.

He's doing everything possible to win the league cup for his own means. The way they lap his ramblings up is fantastic. All they're looking at last night is the result. Not that Liberpewl football club chose to rest players in the CL because they knew they wouldn't get a result. I doubt that has ever happened to them before.

If Ludo were to win 1-0 at home to the RS, would they win the head to head on the away goals rule?

Do away goals become a factor in the event of zero goal difference between two teams level on points?

Yes. you have to read the tiebreaker rules one by one. Basically points, head to head, away goals in the head to head, goal difference etc.

Yes, if they lose 1-0 or by more than 1 goal - 2-1 is level, 3-2 is in their favour. If Basle extend their lead on them they are through at the RS's expense. Since Basel lead 1-0 in the head to head - and have a vastly superior GD at the moment it would seem a 2 goal win is the least that the RS need if they are still in the hunt.

Liverpool play Chelsea at Anfield again on Saturday for the first time since that crucial encounter in April and Suárez recalls how Steven Gerrard was so distraught about the slip that let in Demba Ba for the opening goal that he was unable to travel to the Professional Footballers’ Association dinner that night.

“If I had been in Stevie’s shoes, I don’t know if I would have been able to carry on playing,” the Barcelona striker recalls. “Emotionally, it must have been very, very hard.

“In the previous weeks, so much had been said about him, the expectation had built so much, the talk had been about him leading Liverpool, his club, to a first title in over 20 years, on the 25th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, in which his cousin had died, and then that happens. The captain, the former youth-teamer, the one-club man, a Scouser born and bred, and he was the unlucky one to make a crucial mistake.

“He still hadn’t won the league title. Stevie had started to believe, we all had. And now it had been virtually taken away from him and like that, with him slipping against Chelsea. I’m convinced that if Chelsea had not scored like that, they would not have scored at all. And once you are a goal down against them, it’s virtually impossible.”

Suárez’s book, released on Thursday, reveals that he made the mistake of starting to think Liverpool had virtually won the league, asking one of their coaches whether there was anything special planned at the end of the season, and hearing other players openly talking about it.
