“I’m trying to stop talking about Suarez. He’s not there anymore, forget him, he’s moved on and he’s not coming back. You’ve got to look at what you’ve got now. And they have to get more from those attacking players. There’s also got to be a lot more creativity in that midfield.

“But the longer it goes on it shows how important Suarez was – more important than we all thought at the time.

“At times last season Brendan Rodgers, in press conferences, came out and said ‘we’re not a one-man team, you’re being disrespectful to some of the other players’. But week by week it’s shown Liverpool were almost a one-man team at times last season. Those stats are damning really.

“Ok, they’ve had criticism defensively but this is probably as big a problem, if not more.”

'Suarez was - more important than we ALL thought at the time'. No Jamie. The RS dominated media tried to browbeat the rest of the football world into claiming that Mr Clever's 'philosophy' and 'genius tactical ability' and 'great man-management skills' and 'gives the youngsters a chance' and an 'all round brilliant manager who is walking in Shanks footsteps' was the reason LFC went their closest in 25 long years to winning the title.

The RS dominated media couldn't bang the 'LFC are not a one man team' drum loud enough.

Carragher has started the ball rolling to put the boot into Mr Clever. And in the process try and keep retain some 'credibility' that it wasn't only him that was 'wrong' about how important Suarez really was to LFC and their title 'charge'.

If you look back to the March-May period last season it's amazing how many Evertonians were prepared to question the view that Liverpool were a one man team with an obvious strategy of getting it long and quickly up to Suarez and letting him do his magic. Many of our own were coming around to argue that there was something more than that on offer: a 'new method of playing' that was taking football by storm.

Utter *****, of course. It was what it was to the naked eye: agricultural football given a gloss with the finishing of Suarez and to a lesser extent Sturridge.

Tonight could be the night of all nights. The Charlie George FA cup final goal, the last gasp Michael Thomas winner at Anfield to win the league at the expense of the RS, the 3-0 Goodison defeat, the Chelsea Stevie me slip and Crystambul all rolled into one.

I imagine there will be lots in the Madrid end as this won't be a big draw for the locals.

A few of my mates picked up tickets easily enough.

The fact that Ronaldo can break Raul's CL goal scoring record tonight almost guarantees a couple from him to overtake Raul...especially with Messi breathing down his neck and playing the following night.

It's a perfect storm heading Liverpool's way.
