"The progress this season is; we're going to be a slow process because there was so many changes"... Rodgers, Mirror online.

I wonder what his ever-turning carousel of excuses will spin out next.....maybe "We were a wee bit unfortunate that Southampton sold us all the wrong players...I had really expected the ones who are, coincidentally, near the top of the league now..but it wasn't to be.... so it wasn't"

kopite at work (somewhat level headed one) was made up last season when it looked like they'd win the title

now wants brendan gone if no trophy this season, I honestly think old B-Rodge has been sussed I'm afraid

Absolutely superb that. Gets better with time. It's the closest Gerrard ever got to the title - the defining moment in his league career. An appalling return on a 16 year career with a club that's been 2nd/3rd highest spenders in the league over that period.

He has to look back and ponder why Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Man United all won it more than once and he has a couple of runners up campaigns to look back on. That must be a bitter pill to swallow. Never in a million years can he be spoken of in a PL all time top 10. You have to achieve in order to secure a place amongst that lot.

Cracking point that Dave. I'm looking at my PL all time XI in the traditional 4-4-2. I've Giggs and Pires on the wings, (Ronaldo up top with Henry) Hardest choice is deciding who are the two in the middle of midfield, Keane, Scholes, Vieira or Lampard? It would probably be easier switching to a 3-5-2. But then you will have to leave one of those 4 out. I'd take Vieira out myself. Anyway I digress, Gerrard doesn't get a look in.

His post match interview suggested a man who knows that he hasn't a clue how to fix the problems he has. He might find that money might not be as forthcoming in the next couple of transfer windows and his only strategy at the moment is to wait for Daniel Sturridge to come back. They are a shocking side, far more than I thought they would be this season. It galls me that every mistake and bad performance we've made this season has been punished with the appropriate result while they have been able to call enormous reserves of luck to pick up points against Southampton, QPR and West Brom, thereby making their situation seem slightly better than it is.

Ta la...I needed a good laugh

ha ha ha

Never gets old.

The whole thing was one of the most amazing things I've seen in football tbh. The cameras catch him making an emotional speech on the pitch to his team when they seemingly have the league in the bag saying twice that they can't slip and then he ends up crucially slipping to lose them said title.

It's so amazing that it seems scripted. It's like he tempted fate with his speech and then fate lashed Crystanbul in there to rub salt in the wounds.

Fantastic, that and his knee slide down Bullens Road when the injury time "winner" was ruled out, proof that there is a God:D

But, and here is the nub, will Suárez be missed? "No, not really," Rodgers replies. "I think we had a star player who was part of the collective. Luis had a great talent but the team was the important thing for us and it had to be. We nearly won the league last year with 12 to 13 players. Obviously Luis contributed 31 of those goals but we still had 70 from elsewhere. It was very much about the team and the creativity and work-rate. But he is a fantastic player."

“I repeat we’ve lost nearly 75% to 80% of our goals from the team in terms of Luis leaving and Daniel Sturridge not being available. We have to find different ways in order to replace that.

1 November 2014

“In the last 18 months we’ve been a team who has been a real threat going forward but we’ve taken about 80% of our goals out of the team with Luis [Suarez leaving] gone and Dan [Sturridge injured].

It's actually that very moment when the little print of the famous 'deal' started to work its own magic

Someone yesterday argued with me that Gerrard defined Liverpool. I completely agreed.

Plenty of talent that was never fully realised, always reaching for a pinnacle that is out of reach, inflated reputation built on moments in a plethora of mediocrity. Slip ups that define seasons.

Yeah. He does.
