.....In the entire 90 minutes against Real, Liverpool made six fouls and picked up no bookings. Rodgers has no wish to see his team become overly physical and continues to prioritise technique over force, but he has also recognised that there are occasions when Liverpool lack the necessary intensity and aggression to impose themselves on opponents.
“We could’ve been better in that element [against Real] for sure,” he said. “I am not one who probably studies that side of it so much. I tend to know whether the team was aggressive or not.
“I felt we could have been more competitive in certain situations because that is the mark of champions. The mark of champions is how you are competitive against the best opponents. Against Real, it wasn’t through want of trying or work ethic, but it was an area we could have been better in. I think, if you look, we were labelled this before — ‘we’re too nice’ — and proved over a period of time we weren’t. This year, obviously, we have more games to carry, which takes a slight intensity out of the legs. For us, it’s a whole learning experience for many players at the level. These experiences will make us better.”
