....can't understand all this fear about selling Suarez to a rival club. There's no way West Brom could afford him.

swansea could though and have european football to offer, they rightly just don't rate him higher than their second choice striker whoever that might be. i don't think they actually have one tbh.

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/aug/23/bill-shankly-red-or-dead-liverpool The more I read about this David Peace book about Shankly the sh*tter it sounds.

He's done a rubbish job it looks like. Mind you, beyond the dozen quotes or so we've all had it drummed into us from Shankly is there anything more to him that could sustain 700 pages?

It gets a very big kicking in the latest Private Eye, although thats more for the way it is written (apparently the author has an infuriating habit of echoalia - "Shanks entered the dressing room, the home dressing room" etc) than the subject matter.

the book looks ****e mate, but shankly was a great man. dont know if ur alowed to say it on here (....) but my dad hated him as much as he respected him, very much in the 'dont make em like him' any more and the game is worse off for it

You can say what you like mate, (within reason), and most Blues I know would agree with your assessment of Shankley, not your dads.

Apart from Frank Cottrell Boyce (who's a good blue, btw), I haven't heard a reviewer having a good word to say about it.

It just sounds like the feller's made the mistake of believing being obsessed by football (which is basically Shankly's real defining characteristic rather than the bogus 'socialist' tag he's been fixed with) is a fascinating thing. It's not. It's mind-numbingly one dimensional and uninteresting. Those kkkultists might like reading the minutia of his thoughts on games but not many neutrals will. Maybe there's more social history in it than has been outlined in these reviews, but I'd swerve this one.

I dont like Peace anyway. He seems like an opportunist to me. The Damned United looks like being is highpoint.
