Simple, footballers have short careers and need to make the most of it. I wouldn't hang around at a team that finished 7th on the off chance they might be in the Champions League in 2 years. He'll be 28 in 2 years, and will find it harder to attract the kind of teams he's been linked with recently.
At the end of the day, he's making good money and he gets to kick a ball for a living. If he saves and lives within his means, he'll never have to work again. If he scores 20-25 goals for Liverpool each season for 2 years he will still get offers from those other clubs.
It's what winds me up about our team at the end of the day. If all of the players who left because they wanted to win things or get Champions League football had stayed with us, they'd probably be doing it right now but with us
Meh, that's not how it works though. He's making good money but why not go somewhere where you'll make equally good money but also have the chance to win titles ? That's what football is really about.

Well the flip side of that coin is that R/S gave him a contract stating that they would pay him x amount for x amount of years, he was only too happy to sign that and to take their money.
Obviously they will sell him before that contract runs out, a whole different problem in itself, but he will get a bunce based on the remainder of his contract.
So Essentially he is going back on his word and wanting to tear up the contract he was given and signed of his own free will, the fact that they didn't qualify for Europe doesn't come into it, as if he had been doing the job he is contracted to do i.e. play and score goals for them, as opposed to sitting in the stands on lengthy bans then he may well have been playing the cl football that he craves.
But, who'da thought it eh ? going back on his word and blaming everyone but himself, I believe that it is quite the norm in Montevideo and Gus heartily approves of it.
the thing about that article I love and despise is him saying the press don't treat him right after the evra and biting incidents. it's like he completely bought into the RS's 'never the victim' mantra.
