ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Please can I have some of what you're on? In no universe is Doucoure or Gomes getting ahead of Fabinho, Thiago and Henderson. Criticise him all you want, but he is a good player and captain, something that's sorely lacking at ours.

Godfrey is not better than Van Dijk or Gomez. Or Matip. We have to be honest here.

Only one I really agree with is Calvert-Lewin playing through the medal ahead of Firminho.

I like Jordan, but come on, he's not better than Alisson. It only harms Jordan to compare the two. He's a very good goalkeeper don't get me wrong, and he seems to have improved massively since we bought him, but I'm not picking him over Alisson.

And no, we're not getting Top 4, and certainly not pushing them out of it. It's been 4 games. We're still miles off even Leicester. If we can get Europa League or even Europa Conference I'd be delighted. We're in no way ready for CL football yet. Getting into one of the other comps would at least allow us a chance of a trophy and get us into the rhythm of 2/3 games a week.
4 posts all in the one thread, all of a similar vein.

They won one league cup in about 10 years before Klopp rocked up. Deluded if you think he hasn’t took them up a level.

He obviously has taken them up a level, but a disastrous season for that lot is finishing top 8, and even then they’ve usually had a good few statement wins that season probably including a few derby wins as well. That is one of our best recent seasons.

Of course I’d rather they went back to that level than challenging for the league and CL but my point is that it’s not as though everything has started going their way once Klopp walked through the door. The greatest City and Arsenal teams of all time can’t win a CL and struggled to even get to a final. Liverpool won it with a bang average team under Benitez and then made the final again. The greatest United and City sides of all time win trebles then Houllier does it with Emile Heskey up front. They’ve had a couple of low points but they always have been one of the most fortuitous football teams ever. Teams of a similar or better standard over the years such as Pochettino’s Spurs, Ole’s United, Pellegrini and Mancini’s City either won nothing at all or won nothing in Europe. FFS Rodgers nearly had them winning the league with Mignolet in goal, Glen Johnson, Skrtel Sakho and Flanagan as a back 5! What other team would even be in contention with those players?

They are arguably the biggest club in this country, of course their barometer for success and failure is different to ours. It’s the same with United, their worst season in my lifetime was finishing 7th, that would be seen as a success for us in any of the next 3/4 years. Chelsea’s worst season in my lifetime they finished 10th which has become par for the course for us over the last few seasons. Liverpool winning one League Cup in 12 years is a disaster for them, that’s just the level of club they are and we’re not at that level.

Utd are bigger than them mate

Right ok fair enough, they’ve won one more league title and 3 less European cups, what was I thinking, of course there’s a chasm there. How much bigger does that make Big Red than us then?
United were bigger even in the 70s and 80s mate. They've always been the biggest club in the country. RS second no doubt there unfortunately but they wont be in 20/30 years
