From a record-breaking season he had them over a barrel at 32 years of age and negotiated a £400,000-a-week two-year contract.

At the same time, clubs in Saudi were prepared to offer Liverpool over £100 million for him.

As soon as he signed the deal, he went on to produce his worst ever season with the club, coinciding with the worst Premier League title defence in history.

He's cost them about £130 million.

Now they're left paying a frail van Dyke £400,000 a week for one final season, despite him also being a shadow of his former self!
