It is different now though mate. There are only 6000 scouse season ticket holders at the pit so the old mates at the friendly derby have long gone from there. They are a tourist team and it is only going to get worse as the owners view the few remaining 'legacy fans' as expendable.
It's been like that for years.
I went up to get tickets two days on the run for my mate(he had done the same for me in the passed,) he was working in Sheffield at the time but had been to every Liverpool game that year home and away, in all the competitions, on the second day., I went up for cup tickets
I went to the window , had ticket stubs from all the games, the fella behind the window said he didn't qualify, all tickets had gone.
I said you sure he has every ticket stub, he said season tickets and people on some list or other who get balloted for them we're eligible.
Got talking to him, and he said I will show you why your mate has not got a ticket , pulled a letter out , from a woman from Cardiff said it was her husbands 50 birthday and his lifelong dream was to watch the RS , and as a surprise could she book a tour, and match tickets for a coach load for the game, she got the tickets?
Honestly sounds like bull, but I swear it's true.
Then told me ,to tell my mate to join the ticket ballots from Sheffield not his Liverpool address in Walton as they had a system in place to encourage outside fans to the game as the spend more in the club shops ect and it works out better for him.
My mate came home the next day and tried himself, lost a days work, no luck ,felt sorry for him he was crestfallen, went that season, then stopped completely, shame they lost a decent fan that day.
Must be frustrating for the any local support they have.
Saying that I still can't stand the majority of them local or wool.
Horrible shower.
