ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

It's not a case of either or: you can demand better from your own club while still being critically hostile to Liverpool.

Honestly speaking, Do you think we are being critically hostile to Liverpool whilst being critically hostile to the demands of us fans from our club? I think not.

Some of the posts here were quite frankly embarrassing as @JLW pointed it out. They won the biggest club competition for the 6th time and there are posts saying Spurs were bad or if it had been Barcelona they would have been tonked 5-0. There was also a tweet saying that the bus had an expired MOU. Or that if a team that got 4th place won the champions league, then this is just a glorified Carabao cup with a fancy tune. Carabao Cup? Really?

This has got nothing to do with local rivalry is it?

Local rivalry, to me, is all about ensuring that my team outperforms the local rival. I currently live in a city where there are 4 football clubs in a 50km radius. One from the 1st division. Two from the 2nd and one from the 3rd. I support one of them in the 2nd division and demand that they perform to the levels of the club from the 1st division. Because to me what happens to my club is more important than belittling the failures of the local rival. If my club aims to replicate the team from the 1st division, then I shouldnt be belittling the failures of the 1st division club. I should take lessons and be critical of my club. Please feel free to correct me on this. I will gladly stand corrected.

Dave I'm not calling down other blues - I was guilty of it myself this season just as much as anyone else was. What I'm saying is it's not right that we have to hinge our emotions on the fortunes of our bitterest rivals.. but obviously as rivals we can't help but feel that way anyway. It's just been accentuated heavily by the fact that they've had a great season were ours has been, comparitively, a complete non-event. Again.

You're correct that the blame mainly lies with the club. It's up to us to become competitive and start becoming successful again. It's the only way to counter any success that the other lot are bound to start finding now.
We can do both. That's my point. I can see how detesting Liverpool can get in the way of focussing on our own miserable present. But there's no need to fall into that trap. In fact, it should be used as the rocket fuel to getting back and competing with them and other clubs above us. In the early 80s Everton supporters were no different than they are now to Liverpool fans and the then success their team were having (and it was a lot more pronounced than now). The club got its on-field and off-field act together and there was a determination to better them that dragged us to the top of the pile at home and abroad.

"You have to say they have played really exciting football."I
I think his first comment is spot on. Right now I do feel really bitter but us getting better is the answer.
not sure about comment two. It gets results but it's not great football.

Well that's a very corinthian approach you have to football, I must say.

It's not an approach to any football rivalry that I'd understand or endorse though.

Denigrating the opposition is part and parcel of football. It doesn't mean you accept your own current rank. It's part of dealing with a situation by digging out (bona fide) faults about rivals.

Yes, we must improve. (I've spent the past three days on a thread I created saying exactly that). But suggesting that our fans having a go at Liverpool when they just had a successful day in madrid and land a big prize is wrong is just nuts.

Bollocks to them. They are an utter disgrace on a number of levels. And I back our own fans 100% for having a go at them.

Pull yourself together man. Just because we revel in their misery doesn't mean we have to despair at their successes. They are an utter laughing stock for all sorts of footballing and non-footballing reasons, we need a thread like this to track it all.

Liverpool fan here. Get ready to face the unbearables. Numero seis Baby in Madrid!

On a more serious note, I think Everton are really on an upward trajectory as compared to any other point in their history in this century. If Everton can sort out their board level issues, and give Silva time, Everton and Liverpool competing for the top prize would be great for Merseyside, though I always hope you come in second behind us.

He's the Mayor of Liverpool. I think that is the sort of thing a Mayor of a city with 2 teams should be saying. He should big up both teams and use them to promote and increase the prosperity of the city.

And then pump it into a stadium for Everton! lol lol lol
