That lot have been on the media more than City fans have. Outnumbered City fans in the media since the final whistle by about 5 to 1. They are masters at positioning everything they do as the preferred outcome. The country now believes that second place is the bigger achievement.
The reality is that they were 7 points ahead going into January, less than half the season left, their main competitors are on the ropes with injuries right through the spine of their team (Kompany, Mendy, De Bruyne, Fernandinho), and still involved in 4 comps to Liverpool’s 2. Rocking up to the Etihad smack in form against a City team short on confidence.
To lose it from there is a gargantuan failure. Doesn’t matter how many points they are behind or how close they pushed them, everything was in their favour. The stark truth no one in the media wants to admit is that Klopp wasn’t good enough to manage a win against City, or away against Chelsea, Arsenal, United, or Everton. He also couldn’t deal with the pressure of leading the race as seen by horrible performances against West Ham and Leicester (plus many others at that time that went unpunished). Just nowhere near good enough for title winners.
Compare that to City who won at United, Arsenal, Spurs and us (and did enough to beat Liverpool home and away)
The worry for them is that they could turn in the exact same level of performance next year and could find themselves back in the 70s points wise if things don’t go their way like they did this season.
