ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 2

Just heard Danny Murphy on Talksh1te saying that everyone wants Liverpool to win the league not City.........his reason why????
Most fans will relate to the fact that Liverpool haven't spent an absolute fortune in buying the league!!!!!!

Hope he got called out on it

I saw a clip of TAW on Twitter before the game where one of the contributors confidently predicted "they will remember who they are and we will remember who we are" in relation to yesterdays game whilst the others smirked.

Fairly standard as far as banter goes but the arrogance was off the scale, there wasn't even a statistical chance of them not winning yesterday according to that lot.

It's a pity they don't remember who they are rather more often, if they did they wouldn't be seen for shame.

It's the lack of reflection that does for me. Fair enough give it the big one all of the internet if you must, but at least have the decency to reflect on your conduct an offer an evaluation that fits in the real world afterwards. They seem to then delete the prevailing tweets once it goes wrong.

Rather than doing this, they seem to just double down in the illiteracy of the thought processes. I saw another one going on about how the game was more one sided than the City-Bournemouth game. I only saw the City game on MOTD but it's very clear the City game was far more one sided. Bournemouth had 18% of the ball (about 1/3 of what we managed) and didn't manage a single shot on goal. Reports suggest they didn't get near Manchester City's box. City had about 30 shots.

Meanwhile Liverpool had 10 shots and 4 on target (the same as us). It's a fairytale that they were just more unfortunate than City. The reality is they are some way off City in performance levels. The truth is they have done fantastically well to match City for so long.

Trying to make out they are miles ahead of us probably makes them feel better, but the evidence on the pitch would suggest otherwise. The 2 matches have been very close this season. There are probably 5 or 6 teams who I've been more impressed with than Liverpool this season. They were never going to just run away from us.

However no degree of honesty is allowed and when a measured approach is presented to them they seem to kick off, start abusing and accuse people of being embittered and full of hate. There is more than a bit of projection going on.

I don't wish the lad who made the prediction any harm. It's a tad silly and a bit unhelpful to his own team but he's entitled to his view. The idea though, that as an Everton supporter I am going to look at him, at any point in my life (never mind during a derby game) and suddenly reflect on his perceived superiority is laughable. That's not just me either, nobody will. He is simply not impressive enough. I'd put his level of intellect and intelligence at about the level of most 10 year olds I taught. He tries but there's rather glaring flaws in the argument.

They'd be a lot happier if they came to terms with that. Rather than trying to act out the image of what they want to be, embrace who they are, which is a bit of a plucky underdog in the title stakes they'd probably enjoy it much more. They'd also probably get a bit more sympathy from neutral supporters.

The sinister part of that is he seems to be referring to the main stand where the children and highest proportion of disabled spectators live. I don't think that's a coincidence either. The tory club (and the club of Esther McVey lets remember) mocking children and disabled people. Scab club.
The disabled aren't particularly welcome at Anfield.

I think it will be tight but I just do not see Liverpool winning all 9 games. Even if they drew two and won 7 (which still seems a stretch), City could still lose one and draw one to win it. It all comes down to now who can put the best run of form together but Liverpool haven’t shown anything in 2019 to suggest it will be them. If they get back to what they were doing in December then who knows.

To me there are 2 distinct possibility for the title race. You can't discount the injuries for City. While winning games gives them great momentum it can catch up with them. Fernandino is a massive miss and Laporte is also very important to them (for me he's their best defender).

Possibility 1 is it is a ver tight race. Both teams get themselves together and win lots of games. I don't see City falling away but do imagine they will slip up 1-2 times. They may surprise us and blitz it (they do have the capability) but it's unlikely. In that case it will be close but City probably narrowly sneak it.

Possibility 2 that Liverpools dip in form continues and potentially extends into a full blown crisis. They are not that far away from this. A defeat to Burnley would likely be an enormous catalyst for this. There's little doubt City will be strengthened being top (look at last season where they never looked back) and there is now a serious question as to how far Liverpool can plug the damage.

Liverpool are now a 28% chance of winning the league with the bookies. They were up at 65% a month of so back. That's an enormous turnaround. They've gone from pretty likely to very unlikely in a short space of time. It's starting to sink in with them what this means.

Funny how that lad is now hiding on twitter behind a locked account.

Was big to give it. Not big enough to take it back.

This title race isn’t over, City now in pole position so it’s theirs to lose but still a long way to go..
I think the next 4 out of 5 games City play before Liverpool which they could put real pressure on them

Since Danny Murphy declared that 'he now feels that lfc can win the title having been not fully sure' and says their good fortune against us at Anfield and Mahrez's missed penalty 'has convinced' him, their form has slumped dramatically. His face was a picture last night full of anguish and shock. Mind so was Jenas who's been touting them are title winners. Two more draws would deepen the depression hanging over Anfield and kopites.

Correct mate our two matches have been very tight but the league doesn't lie and they are light years ahead of us ( 30 odd points ) because we simply decided not to turn up for nearly 3 months of the season.

I'm delighted with our 2nd half showing but when I look at that league table I'm fuming with another underperforming poor season we've had.

All I'm gonna do is watch each game as it comes and first up is City who I hope pummelled Watford on Saturday for two reasons.

  1. If we win that'll only put us 3 points behind Watford
  2. Puts City 4 points ahead of the rs and they need to then deal with playing catch up for a change

Hopefully we've put a little dent in their title challenge and hopefully a few others can follow suit because that's us, Utd, Leicester and West Ham now who have all turned up and not just rolled over for the knobheads

There's no doubt in terms of consistency the two teams are miles apart. In many ways Liverpool have massively over achieved this season. They deserve enormous credit for that. Their players produce every game week in week out. Our players have under achieved for the most part.

There's also little doubt we have raised our game the last 2 derbies while they have frozen a bit.

I just can't get over how somebody was so confidence they would blitz us though. Have they gone away to any side and blitzed them this season? They lost to Wolves, scraped past Brighton, were held at West Ham, were held against United's 2nd team etc.

I think that's what might cost them mate, their away form. At home most teams just go weak at the knees before a ball has been kicked ( can't see Burnley offering anything ) but away from home they just don't look the same side.

Now it's in City's hands so hopefully they get a firm grip of things. I think Utd away will be the toughest and they'd take a draw there. I've actually got Utd down to win the most points 2nd half of the season, as soon as Mourinho went they had a favourable first couple of games for Ole, confidence came back and they've looked a different side. Wouldn't be surprised to see them finish 3rd.

You're quite right, over achieved, it all lined up for them... City having to defend the title - always harder no matter who you are. Chelsea has Sarriball itis, United had Mourinho, Arsenal under new management, Spurs, coulda woulda shoulda.
The longer the season goes on the more tired they will get.
...hopefully
Last season Salah had a blinder, he could do no wrong...now he can't score so many
