2025/26 Dwight McNeil

It shouldnt be as noticeable as it was but his first touch last night was always in the direction he wanted to go which gave him an extra yard of pace. It’s one of my gripes with the modern player how they need 2-3 touches before deciding what to do. Dwight was either confident or played with nothing to lose - either way he was brave in and out of possession hence the recognition and deserved ovation.
He's always done that, or at least mostly - his control is usually good.

the less pacey players like Dwight do have a quicker footballing brain

and he has done well whenever we have possession

which makes me wonder if we should keep him for Everton 2.0 with a better squad that plays on the front foot with more possession
like having him as a 10
instead of making him chase around

Great first touch, good striker of the ball and does his bit defensively, most of the time. However, he is almost ridiculously one footed, lacks pace and is easily knocked off the ball. If he keeps his levels up he'd be a decent squad player, no more than that I afraid, not if we want to be a side which is regularly qualifying for Europe.

Not always thrilled by his presence on the pitch but chuffed that he was able to have notable match performance, as he seems like a genuine and grounded human. Also I know it pales to other hardships in the world but I get why being emotionally invested in a move for it collapse can be jarring, so good on Dwight to work out his feelings on the pitch. Hopefully he can build on Tuesday's performance
