Drop Arteta?

Agreed. Definately on the set pieces, a little rotation will make us less predictable.

I think he still good with free kicks facing the goal, Its just corners - he shouldn't bother.

Sometimes the first man looks like hes the width of three sumo's and as tall as a skyscraper - it never seems to clear him.

If Arteta is never a winger, he did a [Poor language removed] good impression for two seasons as one of the best in the league.

True, he can do a good job out there but nowadays he's a well known player. He's probably our only player who is double marked during games and singled out by opposition managers.

It's become hard for him. That and the fact that we don't have anyone who can get the ball out to him quickly and in good position. A passing central midfielder so to speak. He usually recieves the ball nowadays with his back to the fullback which isn't how we want him.

In the middle he's got far more options. He can keep hold of the ball, he can make the passes or he can bring it forward and work some magic.

Naturally he is a central player and I think in the middle he's far more involved. I think it's vital that we get our best player on the ball as much as possible. We've kept the ball far better of late with him in the middle, we actually controlled possession against Villa and I haven't seen that for a long long time.

I know what your saying, I'm just not sure he has the defensive instincts as Bruce said earlier.

Don't have a problem with him in the centre of the park, just not as the deepest lying midfielder ideally.

(unless it was with someone else in tandem who had more defending nous - which by the looks of it isn't cahill or fellaini.)

He's not ideal I agree but I don't see a better option in the squad.

We can talk about Castillo who looked a decent player but even with him in the team we where conceding goals. Two against Hull, three against Stoke, one against Blackburn and two against Standard Liege.

With Arteta playing that role, we've looked alot more balanced. Especially in midfield. Obviously it would be better to judge over the next few games when they've had a run together.

He did do a good job for us there, but playing for Rangers, he played more central. Arteta is great creative wise, but i dont feel he has the pace to get behind defences and send over crosses from the goaline. You look at modern day wingers and most have that pace and ability to go beyond defenders, Arteta does not have those qualities. I see what your saying though mate.

To be honest, dropping arteta is never going to happen nor should it - apart from corners.

He is one of our best players if not the best, and along with pienaar the only real creative influences on our game.

Perhaps its just that, because everyone around him have been playing so poorly, he just looks worse than seasons before.

Drop everyone else and leave Arteta!

Come on team, help our little spanish magician out.

I think the general consensus was that he wasn't up to a role in the centre and he had more time on the wing. Problem is he is clearly identified as our main man creativity wise, has been for some time and this has tended to cancell out the benefit of playing out wide. Now he's certainly adapted to the Prem and possibly the time is right for him to take up this role. He needs a work horse to do the dirty work along side him though in my opinion. Riquelme had Marcos Senna along side him at Villarreal and I actually like the quarterback analogy as this type of player needs protection

Arteta doesn't need protecting, he protects Cahill and Fellaini.b)

I thought he held his own against three good midfielders in Barry, Sidwell and Petrov. He was diving into tackles and his workrate was very good.

Im warming to the idea of Arteta in the centre but not as a DM or Deep Lying midfeilder or anything else anyone want to call it. He can give away posession there or get caught out of position as we have seen in the last game, leadign to goals, i think that position required discipline that Arteta doesnt have.

Seems to me the square peg is Cahill on current form, though i dont think hes done as bad as others suggest. But i would be intrested to see Arteta and Fellaini in more advanced roles with a licence and a DM, Castillo or whoever in behind.

The mistakes could've happened to anyone to be honest. 9 times out of 10 we wouldn't conceded. Sadly they scored a wonder goal and for the third the defence was all over the place, mainly because Jags had been sent upfront to get the winner.

Bar those two moments he kept the ball better than anyone and was defensively solid as where the team.

I do agree though I'd like to see him further forward, in the role Osman or Fernandes played last season. Between the defensive mid and the attacking midfielder. I doubt we'll see it though, Moyes won't drop either Cahill or Fellaini.
