Drenthe the enigma

There are that many beak rumours about these days that it will probably soon be acceptable to have a bong in the tunnel.

An 'arl mate played rugby for Wigan, and he reckoned that Mr E Hanley used to sprint off the pitch at the end cos he had a big fat one ready to light up in the sheds.

know of a true story about hanley his mate offiah and an ex wife of everton legend andy gray

1009 minutes of PL football played.
6 assists
3 goals

So he's essentially created a goal one way or another every 112 minutes. Make of that what you will.

Who did he score against?
Who did he make assists for & whom were the opposition?

How many minutes did Donovan play?
assists?
goals?

Did he work back and cover his defender?
Did he sit on his ass and raise his arms to the referee after running into 3 players...over ...and over....and over.... again?
Did he shoot from the edge of the centre circle?
How often did he put crosses in? - or did he just run into a pack of defenders....over ...and over....and over.... again? Then hit the deck and raise his arms to the ref....over ...and over....and over.... again? Whilst the opposition countered?

Shape up or ship out. No time, no space and certainly no money for a luxury player that provides 3 minutes of decent play a month.

Don't understand Royston haters, the lads an attacking forward thats what he brings to the table, he gets fouled and rolls around over and over again because he always tries to take his man on so he can create something and gets hacked to bits, he does over exaggerate but so would you if you were being kicked and the ref gave nothing.

No point trying to argue with you mate, your mind is obviously made up, and you're prone to gross exaggeration. But let's see how many times he sits on the ground with his arms raised in the Sunderland game if he plays.....

Admit it you get excited when he gets the ball, you do because you dont know whats going too happen thats why you should love him hes unpredictable.

I like KNOWING pienaar will work back to cover Baines. I dont want or need to predict it.
I like KNOWING pienaar and baines will hook up and work to get a cross in or put a little triangle together to do the full back and work the offside. I dont want or need to predict it.

I KNOW Royston keeps hitting the deck, some valid fouls, some that are absolutely not. I KNOW he sits on his ass and expects a free kick every time. Also, when things aren't going his way he has a tendancy to start throwing some borderline challenges of his own in, and can look an utter liability. I don't want him red carded for us, but there are times I have been relieved Moyes has sub'd him because he was on for an early bath.

Some players are volatile they are only humans who happen to be good at footy. Sometimes players like Drenthe just need a bit of loving and made to feel wanted and they will produce.

I understand what your points are, all I know is we are more exciting to watch when he plays, we create more and have more shots on goals when he plays(no stats to back this up just what I observe). With the dire football we have been playing Drenthe is a breath of fresh air in a very murky season.

Indeed. The trouble with 'KNOWING' that Pienaar and Baines will hook up is that the opposition know it too. They are two of our best players, but we need more than that to our game, and we definitely need more threat down the right. If we had Drenthe and an RB with the same quality as Leighton we'd be far more dangerous - especially as both Drenthe and Pienaar can cut into the middle. I like both Hibbo and Neville, they have both given us great service, but the right flank is one of our weakpoints at the moment and far too much of our threat comes down the left, and the opposition know it. At least Drenthe can play both flanks and cut in through the middle with devastating effect, so he is a massive addition to the squad. As i've said earlier i hope both Pienaar and Drenthe stay in the summer, because without them we've got very little creativity.
