Drenthe the enigma

BBB, that's just balls and you know it. He's got the most raw talent and pace in our squad. He is a decent tackler who has a decent set of defensive attributes but sometimes fails to get back up. He's has our top assists, top scorer and basically without him we don't have anything on the right side when it comes to attack. I love Hibbo and I love Coleman but to be fair I haven't seen Coleman ever to be closed down in such numbers, and Coleman is as a big risk giving out freekicks and getting sent out. Also Drenthe will offer us sell-on value. He had a bust up with Madrid which is packed with high quality players and naturally it leads to his contract running out. The chance of a bust up isn't as big with us as he has matured a bit and also he should always be in the first eleven as mentioned as there is really no one in the squad who can compete with him.
Plus that he's exciting to watch. That should translate to additional revenue as the team otherwise rather boring to follow.

It's been obvious for months that he's not going to be here next season which is a crying shame.

Admittedly, he's pretty rough around the edges but you name me another player in our squad that gets the fans excited anytime he has the ball at his feet. (Except Hibbo obviously)

Spot on about Ferguson too. In fact, can you think of any other manager that publicly criticises their own players publicly?

I'm sure everyone can acknowledge he has his faults, every player does. There's no harm in trying to eradicate those faults but not at the expense of his plusses.

And his plusses far outweigh his faults.

Goals and assists win football games. Getting up quickly after being fouled is only a small part of it.

This. We are one of the bottom scoring sides in the league (and prolly Europe) and people want to get rid of someone who's responsible for a third of them. The few goals we concede are hardly ever caused by lack of tracking back either.

I agree with this too, but mostly the final sentence. Exciting. Remember that? Apart from Stephen Pienaar and the occasional flourish from Arteta, when did we last have a player that was really exciting? I'm gobsmacked at the way he runs through players as if they aren't there, and with lightning speed too. Of course it doesn't come off all the time, but defenders must be scared at the way he runs and his unpredictability, because he has so much skill with his feet. Yes, he falls down a lot, it's down to his momentum due to the speed he travels and the fact he is often trying to squeeze between two defenders ffs. Most other players just pass the ball on when they are confronted by a defender, giving more time for the opposition to rally and reposition. The guy probably hasn't even reached his peak yet; as others have commented he still has a few rough edges, but i can see improvement already in recent games.

When was the last time he actually ran past a player?

Why are people are under some illusion that he's Messi? He doesn't use his talent well enough.

Just shows the difference between Moyes and Dalglish, though.

Interesting that Round came out asking for more protection last week while Moyes was hiding from the media and now when Moyes goes out he just unleashes his critique in the opposite direction.

FFS, did you actually WATCH those two videos that ToxtethBlue posted, or is your mind so set that you just don't want to see? You amaze me.

Most fouled player in the premiership.

Moyes shouldve protected Drenthe saying hes been kicked all over the shop these two games, and the refs have give nothing rather than telling us drenthe should get up and defend.

Shocking

This, now everytime Drenthe goes down, any ref will just tell him to get up, regardless of whether there was a foul or not, Moyes stood up for AJ when he was accused of diving, he should be doing the same with Drenthe now, not the exact opposite.
