a ) he is a liability. a sending off waiting to happen. he has no structure to his game.

b ) he makes things happen. he is difficult to defend against. he is a match winner.

you will sit on one side of this argument and not understand the other.

if we can afford to carry phil neville then RR should be accommodated and leave nev out. half the opposition team run to close royston down so with a bit of expertise coaching and stuff we will have a real gem on our hands - he just needs to stay on his feet

He's a must even with his faults!

Along as the money is right. If he ends up wanting silly money then he has to be let go unfortunately

If his wants to stay and his wage demands are reasonable, we have to snap him up.

He will score today aswell, thats what hdm does against these type of teams, wigan, fulham, qpr

Royston Drenthe must stop relying on refs to protect him warns #EFC boss David Moyes: http://bit.ly/H0qGqU

ROYSTON Drenthe must stop relying on referees to protect him and quickly get back on his feet after being fouled, warns David Moyes.

The Dutch winger has been targeted by opponents in recent games, and Moyes was particularly unhappy with the rough treatment he received in the FA Cup quarter final draw against Sunderland which went unpunished by official Andre Marriner.

Drenthe, 24, was given short shrift again during Wednesday’s defeat by Arsenal at Goodison, when he was wrongly ruled off-side and his first half equaliser was ruled out.

But Moyes insist the on-loan midfielder cannot afford to waste time during games complaining to referees.

“He needs to just get up after he goes down and run back,†said the Blues boss. “He needs to get on with it - he can’t do anything else.

“I don’t worry that he’s going down too easily but once he does go down he needs to be straight back on his feet. He can’t be looking and waiting on referees to give him fouls.

“We can’t play with a man short in that period after he’s gone down, we need everyone back in position.â€

Drenthe could be in line to continue in the side again at the Liberty Stadium today, with Seamus Coleman and Jack Rodwell still injured, although Darron Gibson is expected to be passed fit to feature.

And Moyes believes disrupting the passing rhythm of Brendan Rodger’s men will be key for Everton.

He said: “I’ve admired what they’ve done. I’m looking forward to it; it’ll be a tough game. You need to make sure we try and stop their rhythm and their play, because if you don’t then they get into it and they’re good [at it].

“You can see they’re making 500 and 600 passes in every game they play.

“They’re out-passing Manchester United or Arsenal in games, so you have to be aware that there’ll be lots of times in the game where you don’t have the ball because of how well they do it.

“I think that Swansea have had the style and play before [with] Roberto Martinez and then it was Paulo Sousa, and now Brendan, so they’ve built on what they’re doing for a few years and it’s taken them time.

“They’ve had some good stuff and some bad stuff so I think that they’re doing, they’ve done very well.â€

Meanwhile, Conor McAleny has become the latest Everton youngster to go out on loan, after joining Scunthorpe United until the end of the season.

McAleny, 19, made his senior Everton bow at Arsenal before Christmas and featured as a sub in the 1-1 draw with Norwich at Goodison.

Would that make him our top scorer? In his first season in the league from the wing with limited playing time?

Not worth a punt on a bosman, that.

Moyes needs to actually shut the [Poor language removed] up and stop having a dig at him in the press.

You don't see press stories every couple of weeks with Moyes complaining about Neville's chronic lack of any discernible talent or Cahill's inability to score in a calendar year.

Koff Moist.

Exactly.

As i said before, he's the new Bily in that respect. Certain players never get criticised depsite being ****e, others get moaned at over any little thing. Like Bily and Roy.

You might tell the guy that in private, but in public you back your player and blame the refs.

Thats what top managers do. Reckon Ferguson criticises his wingers for staying down too long after being fouled?

It's been obvious for months that he's not going to be here next season which is a crying shame.

Admittedly, he's pretty rough around the edges but you name me another player in our squad that gets the fans excited anytime he has the ball at his feet. (Except Hibbo obviously)

Spot on about Ferguson too. In fact, can you think of any other manager that publicly criticises their own players publicly?

Hmmm, I think most people understand both sides of the argument. For me, ( b ) wins the day and is something which can't be taught whereas ( a ) can be worked on.

How much did Real pay for him?
And they are willing to let him walk for nothing?

He had potential, hit the jackpot with his move to Spain, and hasn't grown as a player. Sucked his wages up, got a bit of first team football with us, and I'll be amazed if he gets a shot with anyone punching above our weight.
No working back, too much hitting the deck, and the self belief that he can beat every opposition player and their manager who is off the field twice every ten minutes.

A couple of screaming left footer goals is what we got from Bily, so we traverse and tie Royston up with the wages? I want a grafter that'll do his bit every week, not a 4 games a season wonder that only turns up against the also rans and the down right awful.

FFS, i SO disagree with every word of that. Never knew Chelsea were also-rans either, you learn something every day.....

Would you like a gold star every time you write something i agree with ?

I pointed that out because people have said it time and time again and it simply is not true. Does he track back as much as some other players ? No. Because he's a very attack minded winger, the kind of player who shouldn't be expected to track back constantly.

He makes plenty of tackles inside our own half and breaks up play just fine with a few exceptions. Saying 'no tracking back' is wrong.

Moyes has battered the fans into a defensive coma never mind the players

Well said guys.
