I’d wonder why his big money move has gone so badly.
Here’s the run down.
His time at Juventus was a perfect storm of bad circumstances. He was brought in by Massimiliano Allegri, who pushed for his signing and planned to build the midfield around him as a field commander, controlling the tempo and distributing the ball.
Allegri was sacked, and Thiago Motta wanted to use Luiz in a weird hybrid role, dropping into a back three in certain situations, and doing a lot of defensive cover and positional shifts. It didn't work.
Then, Juventus' notorious medical staff was likely to blame for his injury woes. Look up their history of repeated soft tissue injuries and criticism of medical mismanagement. Luiz hinted at this himself, calling the injuries strange, pointing out that he’d never been injured before and that there was a reason he couldn’t mention.
Finally, Motta was sacked and Igor Tudor came in and declared Luiz surplus to requirements because his system favors players who are explosive and aggressive rather than technical and controlled.
I’ve seen some Juventus fans wary of letting him go since he’s barely played.
