Trump is all in on the trade war idea.
European car manufacturers have several manufacturing plants in Trump voting areas, not sure this threat is going to be as supported as he thinks.
Aye, as you say such a broad brush ignores US companies that make parts for "European cars" or US dealership jobs that rely on selling or servicing them.Never understood this talking about car companies by where there CEOs live or HQs are. You should support car companies that build and supply as much as your vehicle in your country as possible. A lot of "American" cars were/are as American as Vicente Fox.
Exactly. The supply chain now is truly global for most cars, and many "foreign" cars are indeed made or at least assembled in the US. My Honda Pilot hails from Alabama (which sometimes, to me, is a foreign country), and I'm sure the parts in it were made in many places - including the engine being made in either Ohio or Alabama. Both of those states voted for Trump.Aye, as you say such a broad brush ignores US companies that make parts for "European cars" or US dealership jobs that rely on selling or servicing them.
Also don't think people are going to be thrilled about paying more for a car, wherever it is made, because of the tariffs even if billionaire Wilbur Ross doesn't think it a big deal.
Unfortunately his views on trade are one of the few things he has been most consistent on even before he got into politics, about the only thing I can think that might change his mind is a dramatic stock market fall.Exactly. While I don't like the fact they voted for Trump, I certainly don't want to see the workers there put out of a job due to Trump's idiocy and lack of understanding of global trade. Somehow, someone needs to explain some basics of comparative advantage to Trump so he can pretend to lecture us on it and then choose not to put these tariffs in place.
True - he spoke of trade deficits, tariffs and the "terrible" negotiating that's been done for trade deals in the past throughout the primaries and general campaign. I hope against hope that someone might point out to him (and he then echo the point of view he heard) how this actually works.Unfortunately his views on trade are one of the few things he has been most consistent on even before he got into politics, about the only thing I can think that might change his mind is a dramatic stock market fall.
