Yep

Love this bit...

First is conspiracy against the United States for "impeding, impairing, obstructing and defeating the lawful governmental functions of a government agency, namely," the Justice Department and the Treasury Department.

Second is making false statements. According to court documents, Gates lied to the special counsel and the FBI on February 1, 2018, about a meeting that took place in March 2013 attended by Manafort, a "senior lobbyist" who is unnamed, and a member of Congress who is unnamed.

Two federal only charges. If Trump pardons Gates, he is still on the hook for the tax issues that could be charged at state level. Granted, it isn't double jeopardy if charged at state and federal level, but it removes it as an issue in any potential trial.

Hmm a member of congress, wonder how comfortable Representative Dana Rohrabacher (that House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy once said about “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump") is feeling today.

balls like a bengal tiger on Manafort.
AP - Paul Manafort says in a statement that the plea by Rick Gates on Friday does not change his commitment to defend himself against what he calls “untrue piled up charges.” Manafort says he had “hoped and expected” that Gates would have “the strength” to continue to trial. He says Gates chose to plead guilty for “reasons yet to surface.”

Some links to such statements these people on Twitter are alleging Trump has made would be good.

After all who is to say these Twitter people are from some Russian factory.

Not sure she is Russian considering the girl posting it (Liz Goodwin) has her picture and the publication she works for in her profile. I'm sure if you click on the web link you will see she works for said publication (Boston Globe).

Just a journo getting ahead of herself this time.

You are right in this - when these types of things are posted, we should set a standard ourselves of linking to a reputable source for the comment.
Fair point. Although Liz Goodwin is a political reporter for the Boston Globe she is probably not a household name so I should have made that clear and also the full context that Trump was referring to visa lottery winners rather than those immigrants like Melania who did not use the lottery system - my revulsion at his comments resulted in cheap snark!

Fwiw here is an article from the Washington Examiner discussing the comments
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/trumps-horrendous-cpac-speech/article/2649875
President Trump's speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference started out as a relatively tame performance touting signature accomplishments such as tax cuts and judicial nominations, but it took an ugly turn as he moved to the topic of immigration, broadly painting those who come here as a result of the lottery system as "horrendous."

The context was that Trump was lambasting Democrats for not agreeing to his terms as part of an immigration deal. Though they're willing to give him funding for the wall, he said, they won't budge on other issues, such as chain migration and ending the visa lottery. "Think of a lottery," Trump then said. "You have a country. They put names in. You think they're giving us their good people? Not too many of you people are going to be in the lottery." He then pointed out to the CPAC crowd and continued. "So we pick out people. Then they turn out to be horrendous. And we don't understand why."

Now, it's one thing to say, it would be preferable to decide immigration based on merit than by random chance, as Trump went on to argue. But it's another thing to speak of lottery winners as a group as bad people. Now, I'm getting some blowback from Trump supporters on Twitter, arguing that Trump was merely calling the lottery a horrendous system. Go back and reread what he said or watch it again. He was not referring to the lottery as horrendous. He wasn't even saying when you have a lottery, there's a risk that some people being let in won't be as deserving as others who happened to lose out, thus making a merit-based system superior.

He said, mockingly of other countries, "You think they're giving us their good people?" Then he said, "We pick out people. Then they turn out to be horrendous." Key point — not some of them turn out to commit crimes, but, "they" — broadly speaking "turn out to be horrendous."

What's mad is his logic is daft.

Even in a merit based system USCIS still "picks" or grants the person a Visa.

Are they supposed to be social workers and psychologists now?

The lottery system application makes you fill out a lot of information. I know because i have friends who "won" on it and they are good people.

How can someone determine a "bad" person by a visa application unless they ticked the box or filled out the part about criminal convictions.

The fact that this is not pushed back on and argued with him and his minions is utter madness. The press get wrapped up in the fact he called them names instead.

The US visa system no matter what visa you apply for does an extensive check on you. They even state on the lottery that even if you are picked you may still be turned down.

Another possible reason (other than complete innocence of course!) for Manafort not to plead is this

I would hope that if trump pardons Manafort, he'll be impeached and stand trial himself.
There's also the theory that Mueller could have enough information from Gates and doesn't need Manafort to flip. Maybe bringing out the Virginia charges yesterday is just a way of ensuring a Trump pardon cant save him

Laying the ground work to discredit Gates's testimony.
"He was bullied/threatened by the FBI"
