Who will roll first? Gates or Manafort?
Gates, got young children he’d presumably like to see properly before they have kids of their own. But somewhat surprised he hasn’t rolled yet. Edit Gates appears to have fired his original lawyer and is now using Julian Assange’s, real small world.

On the subject of dodgy money deals

Two weeks after President Trump nominated Florida businessman Leandro Rizzuto Jr. to be ambassador to Barbados, Rizzuto pledged thousands of dollars to fund a gala at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club, the gala’s organizer said.

Rizzuto and his wife, Denise, have committed to be “underwriters” for next year’s Trumpettes USA gala at the club in Palm Beach, Fla., according to Toni Holt Kramer, the founder of the Trumpettes.

The Trumpettes are a group of Palm Beach-based socialites and Trump supporters whose galas aren’t intended to raise money for charity — instead, most or all of the money they bring in goes to pay Trump’s club.

A very well written piece from NYT:

Whatever Trump Is Hiding Is Hurting All of Us Now

Our democracy is in serious danger.

President Trump is either totally compromised by the Russians or is a towering fool, or both, but either way he has shown himself unwilling or unable to defend America against a Russian campaign to divide and undermine our democracy.

That is, either Trump’s real estate empire has taken large amounts of money from shady oligarchs linked to the Kremlin — so much that they literally own him; or rumors are true that he engaged in sexual misbehavior while he was in Moscow running the Miss Universe contest, which Russian intelligence has on tape and he doesn’t want released; or Trump actually believes Russian President Vladimir Putin when he says he is innocent of intervening in our elections — over the explicit findings of Trump’s own C.I.A., N.S.A. and F.B.I. chiefs.

In sum, Trump is either hiding something so threatening to himself, or he’s criminally incompetent to be commander in chief. It is impossible yet to say which explanation for his behavior is true, but it seems highly likely that one of these scenarios explains Trump’s refusal to respond to Russia’s direct attack on our system — a quiescence that is simply unprecedented for any U.S. president in history. Russia is not our friend. It has acted in a hostile manner. And Trump keeps ignoring it all.

Up to now, Trump has been flouting the norms of the presidency. Now Trump’s behavior amounts to a refusal to carry out his oath of office — to protect and defend the Constitution. Here’s an imperfect but close analogy: It’s as if George W. Bush had said after 9/11: “No big deal. I am going golfing over the weekend in Florida and blogging about how it’s all the Democrats’ fault — no need to hold a National Security Council meeting.”

At a time when the special prosecutor Robert Mueller — leveraging several years of intelligence gathering by the F.B.I., C.I.A. and N.S.A. — has brought indictments against 13 Russian nationals and three Russian groups — all linked in some way to the Kremlin — for interfering with the 2016 U.S. elections, America needs a president who will lead our nation’s defense against this attack on the integrity of our electoral democracy.

In looking back at the teachers I had throughout my years in school, I can say that arming teachers is truly an absolutely stupid idea.

Only one, my 5th grade teacher Mr Shilley, would be a maybe until I actually got him as a teacher. He had this massive reputation of being a militant teacher. He looked mean as hell walking the halls. His students made it seem like it was hell on earth being in his class.

It was all 'fake news' as the kids say these days. The first thing he did on the first day of school after scowling at us during role call was to fess up. Said he wasn't sure how it started, but over the years his reputation had spun out of control...and he loved it. Not sure how he exactly put it but he said he'd appreciate it if we didn't let other kids know he was actually nice.

One of the best teachers I ever had. So dedicated to his students. I have no question he would have taken a bullet for each and every one of us. Him firing a gun though? Ain't no way.

Oh and for the record all of us carried on with his story. I think we liked that people feared him.

The best people...

I know Trump seems momentarily keen on background checks but he really should think of putting some in place for his own appointments.

Isn't Jared's security clearance (along with all the other temporary ones) supposed to expire at the end of this week, as per statement from the Kelly last week?

What's the bets that deadline slides right on by without a word?
