you're completely missing the reach and ability of Russia

Not really. Russia interferes in the US political process and it either doesn't work or does work but causes blowback, hence all the headlines we have seen. The Israelis interfere in the US political process to the extent that the overwhelming majority of Congress is even further to the right on Israel than Trump is. The Saudis interfere in the US political process to the extent that, for instance, all the leads suggesting their possibly considerable involvement in 9/11 are covered up.

Therefore the Russians are far less effective than the Israelis or the Saudis at interfereing in the US political process.

Ok, so you’re not bothering to draw a distinction between what’s legal and what’s not.

So basically what you are saying that if Russia paid millions to the usual set of US lobbyists it would be alright if they interfered in the US political process?

I don’t think any average voter on either side of the political aisle is particularly happy with the influence of lobbyists, at least not when the politician they don’t support uses them.

But there is a world of difference between that and Russia trying to hack into the election systems of 21 states.

You are right there - its much more serious when lobbyists compromise the politicians themselves, rather than relatively amateurish attempts to compromise a system that was probably designed to be compromised.

Politicians can be replaced if people consider them compromised but only if the voting system itself isn't corrupted. So personally I consider the integrity of the systems more serious and weaknesses need to be fixed whether that be a result of Russians hacking or dodgy evoting machines.
