I was reading something about immigration. Apparently Obama was scoring a few political points off Trump and being his usual smarmy self, yet analysts say that Obama deported more than 3Million immigrants while he was in charge, more than any other President........

Right but he also put in place something to help those immigrants that basically grew up here and don't know any other home.

He also introduced a path to citizenship for those others whereas they could apply to get visas but i believe that was quashed.

At the end of the day people still have to be deported just not everyone without taking into consideration who they are what they have done etc...

Find this clip quite fascinating

But wait, there's more...

President Trump for once united Washington on Wednesday — in shock.

Republicans and Democrats alike were left scratching their heads after the president did a deal with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) over the express wishes of the most senior members of his own party.

Trump signed up to terms proposed by the Democrats on government funding, which would soon have run out, and the nation’s debt ceiling, which would soon have been hit.

Crucially, another funding measure and another hike in the debt ceiling will be required before the end of the year.

That’s a big problem for GOP leaders including Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), who wanted a longer-term deal, kicking the next likely debt-ceiling increase beyond the midterm elections in November 2018.

Why did Trump do it?

People in his orbit say that the president was demonstrating to GOP leaders that they do not have the whip hand — and that, if they repeatedly fail to move his agenda, the commander in chief is willing to look elsewhere.

We've known for a while Trump was upset with Ryan/McConnell but found his disregard of Munchin's advice about aiming for a longer debt ceiling deal a new move - unlike Cohn Munchin has been pretty fawning in public statements so somewhat surprised he stiffed him too.

This won't last long but would be nice if Dems could get DACA bill through congress and signed by Trump before he starts back with tweeting Cryin' Chuck etc

Many Republicans were furious with President Donald Trump's budget deal Wednesday, stunned that the president quickly gave in to Democratic demands to pair hurricane relief with a three-month debt limit hike — though getting nothing in return. But in calls with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi Thursday morning, Trump raved about the positive news coverage it had received, according to people familiar with the calls, and he seemed very pleased with his decision.

Trump specifically mentioned TV segments praising the deal and indicated he'd been watching in a call with Schumer, two people said. And he was jovial in a call with Pelosi and agreed to send a tweet she asked for about the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, these people said, while also mentioning the attention the deal had gotten. He indicated to both leaders he would be willing to work together again.

"He seemed super upbeat," one person familiar with the calls said.

Probably incorrect but is a complicated story as quite a big change in deportation focus/policies even during his two terms. Anecdotally from people I talked to here in Bay Area feeling was that far fewer raids at workplaces but was harder to get across the border. But the huge change in the economy (especially the housing crisis) makes direct comparisons very difficult especially as iirc there was a change in how deportation were categorized sometime in the Bush years where if you were caught quickly on the border you were not classed in the same bucket as previous years and possibly also how repeat offenders were counted.

Technically there were more under Obama, but it had to do with a change in what was defined as "deportation"

The number of people deported at or near the [U.S.-Mexico] border has gone up — primarily as a result of changing who gets counted in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency’s deportation statistics.

The vast majority of those border crossers would not have been treated as formal deportations under most previous administrations. If all removals were tallied, the total sent back to Mexico each year would have been far higher under those previous administrations than it is now.

Until recent years, most people caught illegally crossing the southern border were simply bused back into Mexico in what officials called “voluntary returns,” but which critics derisively termed “catch and release.” Those removals, which during the 1990s reached more 1 million a year, were not counted in Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s deportation statistics.

Now, the vast majority of border crossers who are apprehended get fingerprinted and formally deported. The change began during the George W. Bush administration and accelerated under Obama. The policy stemmed in part from a desire to ensure that people who had crossed into the country illegally would have formal charges on their records.

In the Obama years, all of the increase in deportations has involved people picked up within 100 miles of the border, most of whom [had] just recently crossed over. In 2013, almost two-thirds of deportations were in that category.
