I dislike him greatly but I don't think he is thin skinned. He tweets controversially to deflect attention away from his incompetence on purpose.
Oh, no. Has nothing to do with purposeful deflection from incompetence. Marmalade would have to first acknowledge his incompetence (or fault or a simple mistake) and that will never, ever happen. He has a decades-long history of attacking those who he perceives slight him in even the smallest of ways.

Literally everything the man has done in his life is to feed his insatiable ego.

It's a well done representation of the Texas Lege. Not quite up to the hilarious standards of Molly Ivins (rest her soul) but accurate.

Thankfully most of the major cities' governments are a bit more sane (Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas and El Paso) and trending progressive. Demographics are also not on the side of the white Evangelicals/Protestants who have ruled this state since, well, forever.

The power in the state has always been oil and gas. That, also, is diminishing as other industries gain power and they are much more inclusive and forward thinking. Further, Texas has led the United States in job growth for most of my lifetime. That is no longer the case. Coupled with steady, incredible population growth, Texas is inevitably headed for some necessary changes. Some would say, a reckoning for its past misdeeds and inaction. I welcome that day for I love my state and the history my family has forged since the time of its founding.

What about during the debates when he'd attack others ... E.g. Little Rubio, Rand Paul etc - belittling others on a constant basis is a sign of thin-skinned insecurity

I felt that he did that in order to gain support from people who were tired of the conventional politician.

American Independence Day is upon us, and millions of the tax-paying subjects of big government will be enjoying a short furlough from hard work to spend time with family and friends in many of America’s beautiful parks.
Photos of Christie and his family relaxing in the sun at a closed Island Beach State Park, N.J. have sparked outrage. The park was closed last week as a result of a state budget crisis and a “government shutdown,” therefore, thousands of area residents and beachgoers are being denied access to this magnificent beach over the 4th of July holiday. Meanwhile, Gov. Christie, who is apparently above the law, is free to take temporary personal ownership of this choice strip of planet earth.

I think it's a bit of both. He seems unable to resist insulting others regardless of whether his base thrive off it
 
I feel saddened by how 'biggly' the US has fallen under Trump.

North Korea aren't taking them seriously, nobody is.

Complete lack of cultural understanding with the Chinese. The 'cake' nonsense really didn't go down well there, negotiations are done and discussed in private - or with great clarity and consideration in public.

Utter buffoonery, and the people of the US are the ones that will suffer.
