Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I think where we disagree is you seem to see 2016 as a broad and complete rejection of the status quo/the elites and a happy embrace of Trump instead.

Perhaps I am just being naive but I think it minimizes the segment of voters that disliked both candidates but decided to go with the devil they didn't know rather than the one they did - Sweet Meteor of Death voters in swing states who had issues in their lives that they wanted addressed but felt Hillary was a crook and were willing to take a chance on Trump.

As you say our reality is what we hear and experience every day so it will be interesting if those in less fortunate positions than ourselves feel if Trump is helping or hurting when they next come to vote.

...except for "happy embrace." Wary acceptance in these quarters, but he can be more Presidential and get more done IIKWIMAITYD. I was a SMOD guy myself.

If this hadn't been so close and such a swing state I'd have voted for Gary Johnson and washed my hands of it. Those less fortunate didn't make out so great under either W or Obama - they'll give us the verdict on whatever's next soon enough. That's the key.

Feel free to tell me I'm being too nosy(!) but from the standpoint of trying to get out of my own echoc chamber just curious as a SMOD Republican what policies/events would cause you to either register a protest vote for a none Republican candidate, or decide to not vote at all, in 2018?

Or do you always base midterms on the local candidate/issues rather than a broader signal to the federal level so the issue would only arise in 2020 - when we can all look forward to a rerun of Clinton/Trump :(

Events, dear Legs, events...

I registered Republican some years to try to have more influence on local elections, especially via supporting reasonable primary candidates. We'll see who they manage to throw into the pit against Nelson in 2018. They'll have to find somebody as smooth as little Marco to win, and I don't think they have found that individual yet. I'll tell you that much. I think Nelson keeps his seat here, but the house doesn't move much in this area. Corinne hasn't exactly helped the (D) party, but her nominal replacement is a big image upgrade despite not being in Jacksonville. Unsafe seats are outside of my part of the state.

I also thought Hillary would win a close election, so what do I know?

Trump is president, and there's a lot that can go wrong and a lot that can go right. It's more important to avoid things that go wrong. I'll watch the economy - not the stock market, the economy. I'll watch what happens regarding terrorist violence in the US. I'll watch the overall mood on the ground. I'll watch Trump along with everyone else. He could help himself by deflecting attention elsewhere, but it's not his way.

when we can all look forward to a rerun of Clinton/Trump :(

Really? I don't think so. I bet we don't even know the name yet of the person that the Democrats will run in 2020. Not who they'll nominate, I mean who they even ARE yet. They'll be under 50, too. Time for us boomers to shuffle along...

and why not throw in a bit of a conspiracy theory
“handicaps the US economy in order to win praise from the very global activists and [who?] that have long sought to gain wealth at our expense...”
