Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I feel that there are tonnes of other options left. Diplomacy with the Chinese, sanctions, covert operations. At the moment Trump is bloviating and Pence is standing in the DMZ looking grumpy. Strikes me as the total opposite of the way we should be handling a country with very little to lose.
All that aside, surely this is something that Japan and South Korea should take the lead in. Perhaps the UN.

That's the end game. It's ultimately a bluff to force action where there's previously been inaction.

Not a Trump fan, but can't fault this personally - it's what I'd have done.

Yea but in his first 100 days? Do you honestly think he's played out all the options before squaring up for a fight?

North Korea fires a ballistic missile. Well Trump has really put the wind up them. No wonder the US are proposing talks with North Korea just as Bush did.

And critically, he calls it 'disrespectful' towards China.

Hate him or not, there's a strategy here, and it's quite a smart one.

Trump has done what most US Presidents have done with North Korea. Shout a lot from the rooftops and when North Korea ups the anti, ask the Chinese to bail them out. Mind, they will be laughing their heads off in Beijing at Trump's 'disrespectful' remark.

As @Tubey mentions, I believe this is the end game and what the US will and are subtly manoeuvring towards in the medium to long term.

For me, Trump's administrations current short-term tactic is akin to Nixon's 'madman' theory adopted in the late 60s with the DRV and Soviets.

In layman's terms, simply making the DPRK and their Chinese masters actually start to consider that you're man enough to use military options.

This in itself is designed so that once the doubt sets in they'll be more inclined to meet at the table and seek a better diplomatic option.
