North Korea will show Trump up when he has to back down, like all the other US President's that decided to make North Korea an issue.
I think he's spot on with his approach to this to be honest. As you say, it's about remaining firm, but it's basically a "get rid of nuclear development now or we'll flatten you" approach, which is the only way to deal with North Korea as sanctions and talking don't work.
Obama let this issue lie dormant and has allowed a rogue nuclear state to develop as a result.
they got nukes under Bush, not Obama - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_the_North_Korean_nuclear_program
Are they a credible threat tho or did Obama and other world leaders have the right idea in keeping an eye on them but not escalating anything? I think this is the easiest way for Trump to flex a military muscle without any huge consequences, they know well what the north Koreans are capable of. This is more distraction and an effort to boost his popularity.Yeah but the capability to use them and be a credible counter-launch threat has only gone from strength to strength in recent years due to political weakness, primarily from the USA.
At last, something I can agree with Trump on!

President Trump often has his finger on the button in the Oval Office — but for soda, not nuclear strikes.
In an interview with The Associated Press, Trump revealed the purpose of a "red button" on his desk, which apparently is used to summon a butler with a Coke for the president.
“With the push of a red button placed on the Resolute Desk that presidents have used for decades, a White House butler soon arrived with a Coke for the president," the AP reported.

I'd be pretty pissed off at this game of chicken if I lived in Seoul tho.
Of course they are. Or, well, of course they could be is more accurate.

That's the point really - inaction is giving them time to improve. They need to stop improving the tech. They don't listen to reason, or diplomacy, or sanctions, or even aid in exchange for stopping, so you're only really left with the threat of force.
