I suspect the anti-Trump rancour is largely sourced of democrat supporters knowing (intuitively or explicitly), that their own party was the architect of it's own presidential demise. This 'knowledge' inflicts upon them an unsettling cognitive dissonance which, is as often the case, manifests itself in a 'blame the messenger' (Trump in this situation) scenario rather than confront the message itself. In selecting Hillary Clinton as candidate, the Democrat party stuffed up monumentally....hoist with their own petard.

Spot on. Rather than acknowledging this though they've doubled down and are labelling anyone that voted Trump a deplorable racist/sexist/homophobe/transphobe. The irony of course being that they're doing the very thing which caused many to vote Trump in the first place. See this is the frustrating bit. Saying they voted for "a deplorable racist/sexist/homophobe/transphobe" is not calling them that.

It's same damn argument in the Brexit thread. Racists voted out. Not all out voters are racists.
