Let's not mince words. John Edwards is a reprehensible ambulance chaser who walked out on his wife when she was diagnosed with cancer and left her to die. I would argue that a significant reason for the indictment is the way that one offends across party lines in North Carolina.Re questionable in context of how law has been applied in the past I go back to John Edwards though - it is the closest precedent to Trump’s behavior and he got prosecuted (although found not guilty, he had the sense not to sign reimbursement checks from his own company).
I agree the classified documents case is the most serious and Trump has in that case had a huge benefit of his position, as you pointed out earlier any normal person could well be facing espionage charges and unlikely to get bail before trial so there are swings and roundabouts about whether his position helps/hurts in legal proceedings.
Trump however has always considered himself above the law, hence the sheer number of the different cases against him.
I don't think the case in New York is anywhere near as strong, in terms of its ability to resist challenges on appeal. From an evidentiary standpoint, yeah, Trump was as red-handed as ever, and Edwards was never an idiot.
