Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

Oh Susan, you really have lost your nerve after bravely refusing to ditch Obamacare haven’t you.

I can't say I disagree. I think it's a prosecution that's 100% valid under the letter of the law, and that is questionable in context of how the law has been applied in the past.

It reached the top of the queue, rather than something with real heft like the classified docs case, because it did not have to pass gatekeepers opposed on purely ideological grounds.

It's one of those deals that reveals just how ugly the process of sausage-making is in a federal system. Any sane system recognizes that Trump is a danger the moment we learn he has nuclear secrets and sources and methods in boxes in a bathroom, and bars him from office for life.

A federal system frequently fails to land on sane outcomes, so we get messy workarounds like this one.

‘Donald J. Trump, father of several children by several women, sleeper with porn stars, cheater of wives, civil fraud committer, tax frauding, rapist, twice impeached, "billionaire", five times indicted, 88 felonies charged, convicted on 34 felonies, insurrectionist, 45th President of the United States.’
Can he do it on a cold night at Stoke though?

Re questionable in context of how law has been applied in the past I go back to John Edwards though - it is the closest precedent to Trump’s behavior and he got prosecuted (although found not guilty, he had the sense not to sign reimbursement checks from his own company).

I agree the classified documents case is the most serious and Trump has in that case had a huge benefit of his position, as you pointed out earlier any normal person could well be facing espionage charges and unlikely to get bail before trial so there are swings and roundabouts about whether his position helps/hurts in legal proceedings.

Trump however has always considered himself above the law, hence the sheer number of the different cases against him.

Politicization of the courts?

You don’t think crimes should be prosecuted if a politician does them rather than your average Joe/Joanne? Weird you never seemed to think it was politically motivated when any charges were leveled at a Democrat. There does seem to have been a pattern of behavior…

I don’t pay much attention to US politics normally, but it’s hard to avoid not reading something about the prosecution of an ex President. I feared for the polarisation of the US going back to when Trump was first voted in and the US seemed to lose its head. My fear has always been that the world needs a strong, and united, USA. Now it seems permanently divided and unfortunately the polarisation is only getting worse…..

If there was even the slightest chance that he'd see the inside of a jail cell I'd see this as a win but it means nothing. If anything this might actually help him play victim even more during the election. This man is a known rapist and still is incredibly popular with the voters. Nah, I'd hold off on any laughing and celebrations just yet.

Only if a right wing racist politician does it, the drunken old fool likes to see his own protected.
