Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

The long and short of it is we now live in an Idiocracy. Ignorance is something that people wear like a badge of honor. It's incredible.

How do we fix this? I don't think we can. As I've railed about in the past, there is a direct line between where we are today and what began with Rush Limbaugh in the late 80s and taken to another level by Fox News. There is no putting that genie back in the bottle. Just look at what @TN Toffee said - his state has gone full MAGA post Trump. This has happened everywhere that's not an urban center. In my state, you have Pittsburgh and Philadelphia as bastions of sanity, then everywhere else is full MAGA. Openly.

So yes, it's grim. I have no delusions that it's fixable, and I know others on this board will disagree with me. But I'm a realist to a fault.
It's fixable, but not quickly, and it would require a sequence of unlikely events. The long and the short of it is that the Democrats would have to continuously hold one of the Senate and the presidency for long enough to restore sanity to the Supreme Court, or pack the Court instead. The current Republican majority is uninterested in solving the gerrymandering to resolve the clear and present national security threat that is our current campaign finance system. The status quo is to their benefit, given the party's isolationist streak.

Trump's two three appointees mean at least two of the Bush 41/43 appointees must be cycled into moderate or liberal appointments for the Supreme Court to address partisan gerrymandering. If the Republicans ever hold both the presidency and the Senate in the next fifteen years or so, there's a good chance one or more of those justices will retire to lock in the status quo for the foreseeable. Thomas is in a bit of a box on his personal pecadilloes, so I think he stays the course, but I can see Roberts and Alito choosing to play for the win over personal power if Republican control of the Senate and presidency will result in a validation of their careers.

All of that starts with defeating Trump, who will be the nominee. It increasingly seems like this election will be fought in courtrooms this summer, rather than at the ballot box.

This is now at least the second time in the past few weeks I’ve seen an article about Trump using this kind of rhetoric at one of his rallies. Hasan is absolutely right here. Legitimately terrifying how little pushback there is against him openly saying stuff like this.

Its so kin depressing, i honestly don't care if biden is dead, there can be no excuses for voting for a corrupt racist monster like trump.

Mr. Meadows keeps TRYING to get out of Georgia, but it's not worked so far.....

He has one or two appeals remaining, depending on whether he wants to try en banc in the 11th Circuit.

If the Supreme Court grants cert, odds are they plan to reverse. The decision was scathing, and was handed down by a judicial conservative, so good chance the Court just denies cert.

Not good news. It opens the possibility of delaying a trial until after November 5th.
Agreed. Trump's team will slow walk the appellate court as much as possible (which, tactically, they should be doing).

I did take a grad level class in legal research way back when, which was pretty fun, and I watched the movie, Holiday Inn, the other night, so I feel I'm well qualified to comment on matters such as these.

I live not far from where Legally Blonde was set. I also feel that this gives me profound insight lol
Also yea, this SCOTUS was always going to kick the can down the road.
But, christ, immunity for ever, how's it even on the table!

Maybe this sets up a really interesting case for the Supremes: if Trump wins reelection, can he pardon himself? Because you know he will try.

If the Republicans have a majority in both houses of Congress, it doesn't matter. An ironclad method to pardon him starts with Trump's resignation. The VP is now president, and pardons Trump. The president nominates Trump for VP, and Congress confirms. Repeat the process to return the VP to their role, and reinstall Trump in the presidency.

Whether this could be accomplished with less fuss through the use of the Acting President clause in 25th Amendment is unclear. That method would involve a "medical procedure" for which Trump would be "sedated" or some such. The VP becomes Acting President for a few hours, and pardons him.

You would have to poll the Supreme Court to find out if the second method would stick, but the first way is airtight. In principle an Acting President has the pardon power, but the Court would be free to see things differently.
