I'm far from racism, bloody hell. I'm suprised nobody here has seen it. It pops up every few months and has done for a while.
I work in a mental health hospital and even my patients comment on it everytime Michelle's name is mentioned on the TV.
Anyway, it was supposed to be a light hearted comment, my bad for nobody knowing about it and realising.

I had defo not heard of it; and I certainly wasn't implying you were...my apologies. It's just such a weird never-ending obsession with these Obama-haters out there.

I have a talk radio right winger friend and I've never heard him say it. He more than likely has, but if I hear anything remotely political from him, I move to another part of the pub and talk footy or music as there's no changing him now.

light hearted comment maybe but even using it as a joke is crass and lazy.
These people want to scare the likes of Michelle Obama out of ever seeking office and they're doing a good job.

It may not be racist but it's certainly transphobic and wrong. Couldn't care less how woke that makes me.

That's my feeling too. I browse Reddit enough to know of this conspiracy theory but couldn't ever imagine using it as a joke. It's just not funny.

It's a very lazy joke that would go down great in a Republican echo chamber.

She has consistently said she would not run but I agree that it is a slander created to try to intimidate/reduce her popularity in case she changes her mind.

But Michelle Obama (48%) would have more support than Biden (36%) if she jumped into the race. The wife of former President Barack Obama has strong support from women, people younger than 55, moderate Democrats, voters without kids, and voters with children younger than 18, according to the poll.

The big problem I have with her is that she is the very personification of what is wrong with American progressive politics (and western politics generally) - I mean, I am sure she is a great person, but what in her background should make anyone think she'd be able to steer her nation through its current troubles? She is a very smart lawyer who hasn't practiced much in the past twenty years.

Emblematic of a nation desiring change? Of a thirst for a new identity based on the courage of ones character? Where the race or colour or creed of a person means nothing in the light of freedom and justice? A genuine meritocracy, where those on the path to achievement are not stifled but engaged and enabled?
Can she run in the UK instead?

Yep. I like her but would want her to hold some elected office first. Also not a fan of political dynasties.

Doesn’t seem much of a hinderance to many people though looking at some of the current 2024 candidates eg Rfk jnr and Viveck (and Trump beforehand). Obama himself had wafer thin history.

That it isn't seen as a hinderance is the problem of course. All the names you mentioned (including Obama) are just back-stories, which have almost totally replaced actual evidence of competence in public discourse nowadays.

Plenty of good progressives have lacked experience, Paul Wellstone, AOC, Ilhan Omar, Katie Porter (not exactly progressive)...I'd take any one of these people as president over Biden, other machine-democrats, and obviously and especially Trump.

I've seen this pretty outrageous theory before and it wasn't limited to Michelle Obama but a whole host of famous women. I know people are warped, but this is up there with flat earthers IMO, in terms of WTF
