I wouldn't pay much attention to polls at the moment.
They are asking people if they'd vote for Trump or Biden.
They should be asking if they'd vote for Trump or against Trump.
At the moment, theres no way Trump carries independents. Also at the moment, there are a lot of independents who wont commit to voting for Biden, but when it comes down to it, they'll abstain or vote against Trump.
I think a lot of older moderate republicans may even swing for Biden.
He's joining the UAW picket line tomorrow and thats huge for a sitting president.
Also if the gov does shut down on Saturday, the GOP will take the blame (again hurting their independent vote)
2024 will be preoccupied with Trump making court appearance after court appearance and as it becomes clearer that he may be convicted, his opponents will start to go for the jugular (I think

If Trump is able to run in 2024, the election will be even more about voting against Trump than 2020 was
It's not like 2020 was about voting for Biden, not by any stretch
