Well, he's not doing the debate.
I asume that, with the exception of Christie, they'll all stand there and sing his praises.
Nuts!
If you don't say things in public, live and unscripted, you're far less likely to trip yourself up by saying something which is used in a trial against you.

That's how I've taken his declaration to not get involved in the debates.

Tbh, although I’m sure his lawyers did advise him to skip, I think it likely a much simpler reason - laziness.

Debates are a skill and require quite a lot of preparation/practice if you are to come out well and its easy to get rusty even if you used to perform well. For example Obama vs Romney first debate was a bit of a debacle.

Doubt Trump was interested in putting in any time and given his current lead debates probably represent a high risk/low reward event. Much simpler just to go moan at a sympathetic Tucker Carlson about the witch-hunt and what a great president he was.

Fwiw

Of course given the electoral college he doesn’t need anywhere near 50% of the vote to win, he can get elected with a lot less if it is skewed regionally.

It's all about turnout.
74,2 million US citizens voted for Trump in 2020. That's 5m more than what Obama got after the Bush administration and only second to Joe Biden in 2020

It's quite clear that the democratic system in the US is losing credibility fast. A very modest swing (+- 40k total votes) in favour of Trump in Arizona, Georgia and Wisconsin and he would've been president while losing the popular vote by 7 million.

I don't think he's flipped. They all have to surrender by Friday.

Yeah, that one's just part of the process. Mugshots of the Nefarious Nineteen are slowly trickling out.

There was an odd profile about Chesebro the other day, my highlight from it was that his college nickname was "The Cheese". Must be some prestigious school to have students able to come up with zingers like that.
