Best play for the Republicans here is still probably to run Trump, settle the constitutional crisis by impeaching and removing should he win, and sit the VP. I don't think anyone else on that side of the ledger can win a general, and the Supreme Court (legitimately) is likely to find he can win the presidency from a jail cell.

We are in for an interesting eighteen months.

There's no law on the books preventing an incarcerated felon from serving as President.

Which might be good, since it reduces the temptation of purely politically-driven criminal prosecutions.

Likely no one ever thought it necessary to explicitly forbid this.

If we elect this fool while he's in prison (or at any time, but especially while he's in prison) we richly deserve our demise as a country.
