If memory serves, he can use that towards his legal bills that are politically related. I know it's kosher under House ethics rules. The FEC rules (which apply to presidential elections) are case-by-case, but it would probably be upheld.

That's why he was cheap.
Given the numerous reports of stiffing contractors and him once cashing a $0.13 check I don’t think he would have shared much even without his legal bills.

That's Trump's entire business model. Learned it from his father. Turns out that if you own a bunch of property, then find a way out of the maintenance bill (whether that's stiffing people and the IRS via paying less in legal bills, or shoddy upkeep), you make a lot of money in the short-term.

A lot of business models these days are not dissimilar. Much of Silicon Valley operates on collecting and monetizing valuable personal data without compensating individuals for it. I once calculated that Uber, in the California sexual assault case alone, did more societal damage than the entire value of the company, and settled the case with a fine in the low millions. Being responsible would have cost far less than the damage, but more than the fine, so they didn't do it.

It's why growth is fairly stagnant and wages were really stagnant for a long time. Krugman is right about this - your average large company in the U.S. is just exploiting market power for profit. This is not the same as actual value creation.
