meaning it wouldn't be that bad if Dems lose the election. So they could have taken a minor risk, picking Sanders or Warren. I am sure if that was the case at the beginning, Romney vs. a Dem pick, Sanders would have easily beaten Biden.

Most of them will happily remove healthcare protections from millions during the midst of pandemic so “wouldn't be that bad if Dems lose election” isn’t quite how I’d describe the vast majority of GOP potential options including Romney.
