They're just saying he has it so he can "survive" it and then act like it isn't a big deal

Johnson was going round hospitals maskless, shaking hands and holding meetings in close proximity to others a month after Trump told Woodward it was serious and after we’d seen what was happening in Italy.

He took it less seriously than Trump did, at least at that time. That he then panicked (and has continued to panic ever since) shouldn’t give him a pass.
