58% support military being deployed
The military is one of the few institutions that a broad swathe of the public still trust.
However intriguingly Trump‘ own defense secretary disagrees with deploying them.
Probably because he recognizes that they are poorly trained for domestic crowd control and that public trust would be rapidly eroded by that and images like this.
58% of registered voters and a sample of less than 2000, not really very representative is it.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fo...-help-police-control-protests-poll-finds/amp/

Iiirc (someone please correct me if wrong) Has to get congressional approval for permanent position think can put in a temp holder as long as they have been confirmed for another position. Most senior military personnel understand that soldiers are trained to fight an enemy to protect their population, if you turn those soldiers on that population they then become that enemy and the line between the two falls apart quickly, they are not psychologically prepared to deal with that as a military strategy, or trained as you've pointed out. And yes the backlash against the armed forces would be catastrophic, at least among the majority of the population, never mind just the shear optics of it both domestically and internationally. And then finally they'll need to consider the high proportion of soldiers from poor communities across all racial demographics who they are now considering tasking with 'occupying' those communities, putting those men and women in impossibly compromised positions.
My worry is that the organge man child will just bullet this guy and put someone in place who will support it, not sure how it works with Defence Sec. and congressional approval?
Exactly. No doubt the 30-35% of voters who make up his base are lapping this up. But there’s no way IMO that the majority of the population has the stomach for seeing American soldiers killing American civilians in the streets. Which make no mistake, will absolutely be the end game if they are deployed to stop the protesting.58% of registered voters and a sample of less than 2000, not really very representative is it.
