Current Affairs Donald Trump POS: Judgement cometh and that right soon

I know polls aren't everything, but they do provide some level of information, and Biden is way ahead of what Hillary was at that caused people to say she had somewhere between a 70% and 90% chance of winning. When you factor in her extreme level of dislikability, her large popular vote win and the fact that her electoral college defeat boiled down to about 150,000 votes total, it's hard to sit here today and say Biden can't win. It's just not a reasonable take at this point.

Polls aren't even providing the level of information you think they are, this is NY Times from Friday:

Biden Leads Trump in Key States. But Hillary Clinton Led by More. While polling shows Joe Biden narrowly ahead in states like Michigan, things looked considerably rosier for Hillary Clinton in many swing states at this point in 2016.

If you don’t agree with Trump or Biden you should vote 3rd party or if you don’t agree with any 3rd party don’t vote or start or own party or movement.

I do expect many will vote Biden because it's a vote against Trump. Whether these people are now more numerous than back in 2016 remains to be seen, just as whether Trump has gained or lost support. Many do like the Donald, tho' the Coronavirus isn't doing him many favours.

There's that equating thing again. Biden is fit for office, he held the second highest one for 8 years. He may only be marginally fit for office, but it's a matter of degrees. Trump isn't fit to sit in the shallow end of a swimming pool unsupervised

Is Biden really fit for office? Is he morally a better man than Trump? Will he guaranteed have better policies for the American people? None of this is a given. Those clips of him creeping into minors is a shocker. Anyone who sees that will have a hard time voting for him, even if they don't like Trump.

Then there's the dementia, the sexual-assault accusation, and the establishment-closeness to Obama/Clinton. He's a career politician. The anti-Trump sentiment has to be massive for Biden to win. It needs Trump voters from 2016 to switch.

That's all not a given, hence the equating.

Any vote other than trump is a vote against Trump. Americans have truly lost thier Democratic freedom if they feel they are forced to vote against their own believes and ideology.

If this is the case the system needs an overhaul and revolution seems like the only answer.

Well done on playing the moral equivalence card, days after Trump has suggested people inject themselves with bleach.

Personally I think US politics desperately needs a strong third party, one that makes coalition governments viable. Like an FDP-style party: socially liberal, economically conservative...which marries the appealing parts of Dems/Reps.

Germany has shown that coalition governments lead to less political strife generally. UK hasn't really got to grips with such a thing, tho'...

I'm not playing a card, I'm venturing a missing perspective: that of the swing/moderate Republican. I'm suggesting what many of those might be thinking. I'm not here to parrot the same sentiments as everyone else, that's not much of a debate.

My own view is broadly similar too, I don't think Biden is fit for office, tho' neither is Trump. What a conundrum!

With the injecting bleach thing, I agree 100% with everyone else here. But i expect Republican voters will take things from his speech which minimise the damage, such as "I'm not a Doctor, I don't know, I'm just suggesting possible solutions".

I expect that line was enough for many Trump voters, and possibly anti-Biden swing voters, to stick by him.

What you're referring to as the "swing/moderate Republican" is known in the USA as an "independent." They left the GOP some years ago and show no signs of returning.

So D, I'm seeing a lot of "Well Trump is (insert character deficiency) but so is (insert Democratic politician) and it's simplistic logic that I admit works quite well because;
  1. It's a coherent sentence
  2. It usually has some truth in it
  3. Pulling it apart every time would take too long and derail the thread.
The first and third components of this logic hold up in every circumstance, but it's the second point that warrants closer inspection, as just because it is somewhat true doesn't really tell the whole story. So I have formulated the Cuco Equation which I hope explains what I mean more clearly.

The Cuco Equation
Here are our two subjects:
  1. On the left is Cuco Martina, Everton right-back and possibly the worst professional footballer I can think of.
  2. To his right is Jimmy, a boy born with a rare congenital defect that means he has cucumbers for legs

84707

Now, Jimmy doesn't let his disability deter him and his love of football. He plays football all the time and, within the very small sample group of children who have cucumbers for legs, he might even be considered pretty good. But overall, he has worse control than Lukaku, no upper body strength, no accuracy, no pace and any small successes he has on the field are usually facilitated by his loving and supportive friends.

Now at this point, there are two true statements we could make about both Cuco and Jimmy:
  • They both play football
  • They are both terrible at football
The Scenario
So let's say, hypothetically, we're debating who should line out against Manchester United tomorrow, and these were your only two choices for right-back, you could say this to argue Jimmy's case:
"Yeah Jimmy's bad at football, but so is Cuco Martina." This is a true statement

And if you wanted to indicate that you were just taking the middle ground and not overlooking Jimmy's severe defects as a footballer, you could say something like "Our scouting policy is terrible if these are our only two choices", to further shift the conversation elsewhere.

But all joking aside about Cuco's relative merits as a footballer, if we were to line out against Manchester United tomorrow, and give ourselves the best chance of beating them, you would absolutely have to go with Cuco. He's a terrible footballer in the context of professional football, but would still probably be the best player in a league 1 or non-league side. Regardless of what you think of him, he is overwhelmingly more likely to contribute to the game than Jimmy, the boy with cucumbers for legs.

Conclusion
So when you read a sentence like "Yeah, well Trump says stupid things, but so does Joe Biden"; it's true, but severely under-reflects the weighting of how that truth applies to both men. One man is doddery and trips over his words, one tells a population of people to inject themselves with bleach, and it's not even the dumbest thing he has ever said.

Just to be clear, Trump is the boy with cucumbers for legs
