I am not religious in any way whatsoever, but the way in which apparently (and in person) God-fearing, decent Christian people accept things that their saviour and their holy book clearly warn them about is perhaps the best evidence for some form of supernatural malevolance I can think of, apart of course from the very similar warning in the Koran against the same sort of deceit.
