Who cares what the Constitution mandates anyway? Up next...quadrennial presidential elections are really more guidelines than actual laws...
Partially agree if you’re looking at those who voted for him in 2016.I agree with the first part, but I think the second bit does miss the point a bit.
"Trump's base" are angry for very real and in most cases entirely valid reasons - their life expectancy really is going down, the cost of living really has gone up, their job security really has gone down (a lot), their healthcare really is ludicrously expensive, their kids really are going to have it worse than they did.
Of course, they've been lied to for years (by their news media, their politicians) about why this is happening to them, that it is the fault of blacks / migrants / muslims / other countries / Democrats / gays / various conspiracies - but it has happened to them and that the problems like they experience can only ever be solved (and their votes only ever won back off Trump) by dealing with their concerns along with the rest of their class (ie: the working class, which includes black and latino populations across the US). Of course in the US the political class have played this game for centuries.
This idea that they are all racist, anti-immigrant or whatever is to buy into the propaganda that is fed to them; if a Democratic politician came along and ensured that the US working class as a whole had access to better and more stable employment, that they didn't bankrupt themselves when they got sick (or went to college) and that their kids might not be doomed to yet more poverty (as black, white and latino kids are) then you'd probably find that as a class (black and white) they were actually no more racist than anyone else.

those who STILL support him at this point I have a far less sympathetic view of. Dems are never winning that group over, irrespective of policy.
But then they don’t need to, to win.
It's this. For all the talk about it being about the economy and quality of life, it really comes down to the perceived cultural affronts. It's really as simple as that.that covers part of Trumps base, another very large chunk of his base are well off white suburbanites.
These people are taking one look at the markets and excusing absolutely everything Trump does.
They think they're not racist but they pay $500 a pop to go to NFL games to shout at black players who kneel for the anthem.
As for his working class base and their kids, I wish I shared your optimism. Generations have been drenched in nationalism and religion, the media has simply monetized this. So yea, there could be Democratic governance in red states and people could get good healthcare and stable jobs but those people would just move to the suburbs, pay $500 for an NFL ticket and find joy in booing the black player for kneeling.
thing is, I honestly don’t think the strategy for Dems is to attempt to turn any but the very most reluctant Trump voters (and those people, after his behaviour the last 30 months, are relatively unlikely to vote for him anyway) - it’s to maximise their own turnout levels. That sort of ignores the fact that Dems (or at least the majority of them) haven't actually done anything to try to win that group over, nor has the leadership of the party suggested that getting rid of Trump will result in any actual changes to people's lives. It seems a lot of those voters assume - probably correctly - that even if they did turn away from Trump then they'd see no benefit from it. What makes it even worse is the few Dems who actually have suggested things might need to change fundamentally (Sanders especially) are the ones getting the serious internal opposition.
Why would anyone change their vote in the face of contempt like that?
YupWas @MelbourneToff the guy who got banned from here and then went to the Everton subreddit to complain about it only to be told by everyone that he was a melt ? Or was that another guy ?
