He can now say they gave me "some" so I should be able to have it all, because it's a national emergency to only build "some" of the wall as it'd be a waste of money if not built in full.

In my view, the Dems buckled needlessly on this. Trump was on the ropes and they gave him a way out.

Nah, the dems played this perfectly. He's got less money than he could've got in January and he owned the shutdown. If Pelosi ends up forcing the Senate to vote on the national emergency she'll have played a blinder. Tie the GOP to this - make senators go on record.

This will end up in the courts (including land-owner cases) past 2020 and trump's case isn't good even if he's president past then. A true national emergency would require immediate action. He waited a month and the timing shows he clearly has invoked it to undermine Congress. Even if the courts somehow upheld it, it then sets a precedent for the next dem president. How about climate change or gun violence being declared national emergencies?
