He's protecting Republican power, and at absolutely any cost, more than he is protecting Trump himself. I'd bet every penny I have that McConnell can't stand Trump

Astonishing that McConnell used to be seen as a relatively moderate and sensible Republican, who was willing to work across party lines. One hell of a transformation

Two years ago the narrative on conservative radio was very much a hate machine on McConnell. It was a surprise for me to hear it.

The narrative has changed though. Changing the rules to get Trump's supreme court justices confirmed went a long way for him.

His staunchest critics now seem to think he should just make a simple majority the norm. Basically permanently using the "nuclear option".

The transformation is every bit as start in Lindsey Graham - and that one has happened in an even shorter time. He literally seemed to turn on a dime, around the time McCain got sick.
Really does make you wonder if someone is holding something over him.

Yeah it was a good while back. Lawrence O'Donnell was talking about it the other day, saying that if, when he worked in the Senate (so I guess that puts it between '89 and '95), someone had told him that Mitch McConnell would be the republican leader, he would have said "good, that's someone we can work with"
